Title: Funny how things work.
Post by: Mike S. on December 28, 2013, 08:26:17 PM
If I were sitting at home looking through a Bass Pro catalog, or searching their site, I could spend a ton of money in no time. But, today, I am in a hotel room looking at the Bass Pro Shops in Auburn Hills, walked around the store for a while, and didn't spend a single dime. What gives?

That is strange.  Now that I think about it, the catalogs and internet seem to make it more appealing than when you are in the store.  I can see it now...

when in a toy store it is hard to see what you want when there are so many thing to look at. I have done it many times go, get looking around and forget what I was after.

I didn't even look at fishing stuff. I walked by the boats, and then over to the aquarium. Boy do they ha e a hog of a largemouth over here!  After that, over to the guns.

When we get in as deeply as this group, a few things happen.  first, we all know how to get things on sale.  second,  they dont sell a lot of what we use in stores.  I still buy from the store in an emergency, but I know I NEED Nemesis to make my plastics, Kustom Kicker to make my Jigs, and RedDirt to make my spinnerbaits.  I also want to buy 200 worms at a time, not a bag.

i usually dont' buy fishing stuff at BPS or Cabelas at all anymore. i even have a cabela's club card lol.

Seems like if there is anything i actually need, there are several other places that have better prices and selection.  I went to bps on black friday last year on my way home from Indiana and came out with nothing, that was kind of disappointing.

I find that the selection isn't as good as expected either.  You'd think a big huge place like that would have any kind of name brand item in most colors and sizes, but that's not the case.

I think we all hit a point
Were instead of buying more junk were after the quality
I find BPS whats to sell there brand and the other is all at RSP or higher
It's a fun place to visit, But I don't shop there

Cabelas
Really doesn't have a fishing dept.
Good price on some of the clothing. Good gun selection but I buy from the smaller gun stores
Fun place to visit, But I don't shop there

I don't even want to talk about gun prices at Cabelas. I got ripped big time by then on my Ruger 1911. I have looked for that gun for 2 years, and nobody has had it. Not even the Internet gun shops. I finally got my hands on one at Cabelas in Grandville. It was slightly used, but in my hand....finally. I bought it. The next day I go to Port City Pistol looking for 9mm ammo, and they have my gun new for $100 lless. I was not a happy camper.

Anyways, I ended up buying some clothes for everyone in the house at BPS today. Souvenirs are cool. Kinda like Harley guys. They buy a shirt at every bike shop they visit.

I shopped at Bass Pro in Auburn Hills and bought (been awhile since I've bought) some hooks for crankbaits, and Neko rigging and similar after the Michigan B.A.S.S. Nation meeting. I found the old, long expired gift card someone gave me and Bass Pro was nice enough to issue me a new one for the same amount. Very nice of them to do that. I needed some new hooks.
