Title: Bassmaster magazine desperate for $$$ or what??!?
Post by: gmetime24 on November 13, 2013, 02:21:47 PM
It seems just about every other week I get a call from bassmasters magazine trying to get me to renew my membership that is up summer of 2014. They tell me I'm getting a special offer for this 5 year renewal and it's really annoying! I always tell them the same thing, that I'm short on funds and will make my choice once my current membership is almost up. Will they give it a rest already?!?!??

They still call me every month and I haven't had a membership for a couple of years!  The content just doesn't seem very relevant to me when I can read the same exact things for free online through multiple sources.  I'm also really disappointed in their escalating tournament entry fees, shrinking coverage of actual fishing on the TV program, and the fact that they lag SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO far behind FLW in technology.  I mean FLW has been live streaming the final day of the top 4 anglers during season tournaments and the top 10 during the Forrest Wood Cup for a few years and Bassmaster takes weeks just to put a TV episode online that was recorded and aired weeks before...

I cancelled my subscription to all those clubs and magizines, along time a go. Until those organization start to treat me like a valued customer. I refuse to be a victim of their smoke screen.  Let them get money from someone else. If you want tips and information about fishing, stay right here on GreatLakesBass.com.

They are trying to make us pay for no one showing up at the metro event.   I will say they are determined.   Glad it is on my phone and not the wifes.

Why is it we had huge crowds at the Muskegon All Star event and the season ending event at Metro was a disapointment?  Seems strange to me given the demographics on the East side.

Say what you want, I like Bass Master Magazine and look forward to my new issue every month.  I've fished quite a few of the venues they visit and it's always fun to see how they catch them there, often in the same spots we do!

IMO, Bass Master is the worst magazine available.  Bassin is so much better for details and content with little advertising.  With that said, I signed up for a 3 year subscription 2 years ago.  That is when they started calling me.  1, 2, 3 times a week!  I told them I just renewed and I had another 2 years X months.  They had no idea.  9 months into my new 3 year subscription, they stoped sending me my magazines.  I tried calling/emailing but never did get my 2 years 3 months worth of magazines.

Bass Master magazine is a complete rip off.

My store sells that one... no need to pay for it!  Great lunch time reading sitting at my desk.  We get the FLW Bass magazine too.  Like that one as well.

Ya I think I'm done with bassmaster after my current membership runs out. They are too annoying to renew. I might look into another magazine subscription or just continue to read articles online and pick the brains of all those nice GLB members  ;D  ;D

Strange... they never call me and I've been a BASS member and gotten their magazine for many years.   ???  Not that I want them to call me of course.

I have only received one call and all the rest are from outside concern that is trying to sucker you into renewing your subscription through their company.

Why is it we had huge crowds at the Muskegon All Star event and the season ending event at Metro was a disappointment?  Seems strange to me given the demographics on the East side.

Say what you want, I like Bass Master Magazine and look forward to my new issue every month.  I've fished quite a few of the venues they visit and it's always fun to see how they catch them there, often in the same spots we do!

The reason why the attendance at the Lake St. Clair event was so bad was due to a couple of different reasons.  One, the lack of advertising for this event was appalling.  I saw one billboard along I94, and one small sign in front of the entrance to Lake St. Clair Metro Park.  Two, the media coverage in metro Detroit was pathetic.  Some news station didn't even mention it, and those that did got everything screwed up.  I was shocked by the absolutely cluelessness and zero prep work/research that local media showed.  Three, this area is jaded.  We have the Lions, Tigers, Pistons, Red Wings, concert venues, and endless opportunities for entertainment.  I'm not saying that the west side of the state doesn't, just not the same as metro Detroit.  And four, the people of metro Detroit are quite different from those elsewhere in the state, and trust me, this isn't a negative on other parts of the state.  Its a negative for the metro detroit area, and I am a born and raised metro detroiter saying this.  This area has very little if any community pride and for the most part is anything but down to earth people.  Sure there are some good people who live in the area, but the mindset and approach to life is very different.  When I traveled to muskegon to attend the All Star Event, I was amazed and what I say and heard.  Advertisements for the event hanging up at most businesses. Adds running on radio and TV. People at restaurants, drug stores, gas stations, and just about everywell else I went were all talking about the Bassmasters being on Muskegon and White Like.  The biggest difference was, the BASS event meant something to the people and communites surrounding Muskegon.  On Lake St. Clair, very few people knew the event was in town, and even fewer cared.  I have said it once on this site already, but its worth repeating.  Thank You and Job Well Done to the people of Muskegon for showing BASS that Michigan does care about bass fishing and will gladly support major tournaments in the State.
As for Bassmaster Magazine, I too think it is a good magazine and well worth the cost.  I subscribe to both BASSMASTER and FLW and enjoy both equally.  Yes, BASS has called me about renewal, and I have.  I never once found them to be annoying or pushy.  If anything, the people who called seemed to be good ol' southern boys who were respectful and cared about fishing.  Actually, between their calls and the renewal incentives they offered at both the St. Clair and Muskegon Lake events, I not only purchased a membership for my buddy, but I also have my subscription renewed until the year 2020.

I've been a member for many many years. Love the magazine, and have never gotten a phone call. I renew when its due. Never had a problem doing that either. Maybe they just like me.

I like the magazine and have received calls. Just tell anyone that calls that you want to be taken off the list - done. I will gladly renew by mail.

I've been a life member of both B.A.S.S. and FLW for a long, long time. Once in awhile someone claiming to be calling for B.A.S.S. does call me to renew or similar. It usually seems to follow closely after I sign up for something online - contest, promotion, voting, etc. I've noticed it helps if I remember to uncheck any boxes about being contacted or added to something on the forms. I'm already on anything I want.

They seem to honor the unchecked boxes and stop calling almost all the time if I tell them I'm already a life member with no other needs.
