Title: Not bass, but lots of fun
Post by: Hollada on November 10, 2013, 12:36:15 PM
A bit of fish porn from Saturday outing on the Pere Marquette for steelhead.  Fished floating fly line with beads underneath an indicator.

Went 8 for 11

What are you planning to fish with?  We were using fly rods with indicators.  6 ft leader to a snap swivel.  Weight to just bounce bottom on the snap then 3 ft of 8lb Tippett, a small bead and 2 inches below the bead a hook.

Fished just like I would dead drift a nymph for trout.   Feel the tik tik of the lead on the bottom and watch the indicator for any hesitation or movement.   Most takes were very subtle.

If you've never done it before I would highly recommend a guide.  This also gets you away from the pressured public access points.

I have a buddy that gave me everything I would need to chuck and duck on spinning gear with egg flies with a nymphs. But I did buy some 8mm beads what size hook are you using after that bead and are you using a nymph attached to the hook? And what type of hook?

No nymph.  I think the hook was a 2 or a 4 octopus tied snell.
