Anyone have any recommendations for someplace to camp with the family on a lake? Ideally it would be someplace where I can tie my boat up at the back of the campsite.
ever try walpole island?
I will give you a couple ideas.
Brower Park or Newaygo State Park on Hardy Dam Pond.
William Mitchell State Park on Lake Cadillac and Mitchell.
Ludington State Park on Hamlin Lake
Interlochen State Park on Green Lake up by Traverse City
There is a state park on Gun Lake but the fishing is tough and the camp ground can be very busy.

Bruin Lake Campground in Unadila (near Pinckney) on the Half Moon chair of lakes.
brewer park on hardy and the state park in ludington are both very nice. (as previously mentioned)
Aloha State Park on Mullett Lake
I'd have to go with Duck and Green up at Interlochen State Park. Beautiful park with cabins to rent. The south campground cabin sleeps four and is right on the water with a spectacular view. You got Duck, Green, Long and the Bay is not far away. The smallmouth fishing doesn't get much better. There is a lot to do at the campground. The world famous music camp at Interlochen has big names in all summer for concerts. Cost a some bucks but worth it. You also have Traverse 30 minutes away with the Malls, Great Wolf Lodge water park, Casinos, etc. Some great places to eat as well. Boones Long Lake Inn is a must if you are ever in that area. The Hofbrau has a great Sunday Brunch. Ludington would be my second with some top notch fishing and another very nice campground with a nice lake town to visit if it rains. Cadillac and Mitchell has a great campground and the town is right there. It wouldn't rank as high as the previous two in my book for fishing, because of the pressure that it gets. Tournament after tournament on weekends plus weekdays. An out of the way spot that is really nice is Whitewater Campground on Elk Lake in the Torch Chain. It has a very nice campground and very nice ramp right with lots of parking in the lot near the ramp to keep your boat. At Whitewater, you are only minutes away from Elk Rapids which is on East Bay. One of the Traverse City casinos, Turtle Creek, is just a few miles down the road. If you want to keep your boat in the water Cadillace and maybe Ludington would be your choice.
Boones is an awesome place to eat...Only if you like big T bone steaks though. Take your appatite you will need it.
Long Lake Alpena. Incredible lake for smallmouth, nice campground park with boat launch, playground, and beach... PLUS Grand Lake and Fletcher's are close by!
Waffle Farm in Branch County has an awesome camp ground and a Chain of lakes to choose from.
Sleepy Hollow State Park at Lake Ovid, just outside of Lansing. It's nicer than the average state campground and it's a no wake lake, so no jet skis or water skiers. Good bass fishing.
Make that - very good bass fishing... I'll finish convincing you yet.
I was just going to mention Sleepy Hollow. I know it is Kimmel's favorite lake for Musky's as well as bass. :D It is nice place to camp and it is on my list for this summer if I can find a free weekend. It might have to wait until September.
DJK, Are you going to meet me there and show me around. I have camped there a couple years ago but I haven't fished it.
