Title: Name your five best bass lakes in Michigan
Post by: djkimmel on September 30, 2013, 10:05:35 PM
I have a project that will further the process of promoting more bass fishing opportunity and maybe bass tournament fishing in Michigan. Can you name your 5 best bass lakes in Michigan? Inland lakes that can handle a fair amount of fishing pressure not small, unknown lakes please. If you want to list the Great Lakes / parts of the Great Lakes, please list those separately from what you consider your 5 best inland lakes. Thanks!

Grand Lake
Charlevoix
Burt / Mullet
Elk / Torch Chain
Long Lake Alpena

If we are talking Great Lakes and lakes connected I would say:
Saginaw Bay
LSC
Grand Traverse Bay
Bay De Nocs

How about some green fish lakes. Wixom, Sanford, White, Muskegon and may as well throw in Secord.

Can't think of a 5th one I've fished more than once that's big enough to handle more pressure than it already gets.

I find it odd that Belleville Lake didn't make at least one person's list.

Is that first lake in the UP? Maybe that is the Indian name?? I'm familiar with Lake of the Hills... (or maybe it is Lake of the Hills have Eyes... something like that?)

For inland lakes:
Burt and Mullett (and all accessable waters)
Charlevoix
Elk and Torch (and all accesable waters)
Houghton Lake
Muskegon
I also really like Houghton Lake

Great Lakes:
Lake St. Clair/St. Clair River
Erie/Detroit River

Houghton is another one of those 'mixed reviews' kind of lake. But it does have a pretty good bass population in it and I have a fair number of good memories from there. I've yet to figure out the big fall smallmouth out there though. I've tried twice but it's been a number of years since the last time.
