Title: Fishing Report: Somerset Beach Campground Sept. 2013
Post by: bigjc on September 17, 2013, 10:33:31 PM
This past weekend (Sept. 13-15) I took my three youngest children down to the Somerset Beach Campground in the Irish Hills area, for their annual Sportsmen Weekend.  It was simply an amazing weekend!  Besides shooting through hundreds of rounds of ammunition, we spent several hours fishing the small lake in the campground.

Water temps were in the low 70's.  Water clarity was very good.  Visibility to about 8 feet.  The small man-made lake is full of aquatic vegetation, pan fish and tons of immature bass, in the 10 to 13 inch range.

As you can imagine on a lake like this small white baitfish imitating lures were key to catching small bass. White grubs and swim baits, swimmed above the weeds and along weedlines produced best.  Over the course of about 3 hours, the kids and I caught between 15 and 20 small largemouth bass.  Fish seemed to bite better in the afternoon, and evening, than in the morning.

They...I mean, we...had an incredible time.  They love fishing and shooting!  My littlest one is turning into quite the angler.
