Fished Manistee Lake last week did pretty well for this time of year... several 2.5s and two 3.0s.. had a limit around 13lbs. Fished the channel and Big Manistee River didn't get many bites, but they were quality. Drop shots seemed to be the ticket. Fish were hanging on the steep drops. PM me bob and I can better explain some spots and some gps coordinates  ;D

Fish the wood on Manistee Lake for smallies, hit the east shore side for good largemouth.  It would also be a great idea to fish other area lakes like Arcadia or either of the Herring Lakes.

Portage is just up the road. Best west shore lake IMO. Takes 19lb to win there mid summer.

When you get tired of catching smallies take a drive to Tippy Dam.  you can drive right to it on the north side of the river.  Should be salmon in there now.  For a great hike about mile down from the dam is the Saw Dust Hole.  Park in the lot and walk down to the river.  You can walk over a mile down stream along the river.   Should be able to see lots of salmon in the river.  It is a beautiful area for a hike and picnic.

If you walk down near the river and theres salmon in the river watch out for the clowns throwing the turks ticklers and lead weights and jerking them outta the river. You will probably end up knocked out cold. Ive caught hundreds of salmon since i was able to fish for them by fishing for them legally but still to this day when i come back home on leave and salmon fish i see the idiots throwing 1lb lead weights and hooks at salmon trying to knock them out.

The one right in town... you can't miss it.  Draw bridge goes over the river/channel... look east.
