Went up to Middle Straits Lake Sunday morning. The lake is no wake until 11am so even though there's a ton of houses on it, you can still get some good weekend fishing in. Hadn't fished this lake and the guy I was with didn't know the lake either so tried to break it down. Started left of the launch and followed the drop around. Partner caught one up shallow on a wacky drop shot rig between the launch and the golf course and that was it. Right in front of the golf course found a nice weed line and a deep drop, but couldn't catch anything there. Headed to the north side and there was some brush in the water, but no fish shallow again. Went out to about 8 FOW and there were some stalk-type weeds with the tips just sticking out of the water. Started fishing a popper and then the bite was on. Caught four or five keepers on the north side from point to point and a couple more short fish. Biggest was a FAT 18" largemouth that hit just off a small diving platform. Around 11am the boat traffic came out and fishing died off with it. Pretty good stretch of top water bite though. Hadn't caught a top water fish all year and I definitely missed it.
Sounds like a good time. Nice job on the topwater
Good work!
Nice job !!!!!!!!
I hit the lake tonight for a few hours. Was my first time out on this lake so was doing a bit of exploring in my kayak. Had a few hook ups around the docks between the launch and the golf course on a baby bass yum dinger t rigged. Couldn't get the hook set tonight.
Put on a karu chartreuse chatter bait with a white kalin twister tail (my favorite pike lure) and nailed a nice 18 inch lmb in 10 fow casting into the weeds in front of the golf course . Had a few hits top water on the north side but again no hook ups.
One of those nights.
I understand there are smb and walleyes in the pak as well. Anyone have luck on either? What lures work best and where?
