I am going camping in the Manistee national forest just north of Hamlin Lake this weekend and a few of us are bringing our kayaks. I have not fished very much over that way does anyone have any suggestions. I would love to get my brother on to some smallmouth however we aren't going to be to picky.
Manistee lake and river both have huge populations of great smallies. Also tippy dam pond.
Second what Ross said. Might add that the Big Manistee River holds a ton of smallies. Good float with the kayak.
A great float is from Tippy dam to High Bridge. It is all through pasture and low lands. no houses. Might even see some bald eagles. Some small rapids depending on how much water is running. you need 2 cars park one at high bridge. Done it many times in my john boat. Another good float is from high bridge to bear creek or rainbow bend. Look on a map or google earth.
thanks guys I think I am going to do bear creek to rainbow bend......
