Post by: BassinGT on January 18, 2007, 08:58:37 AM
How is the Angler of the Year for individual ABA districts determined?

Curious how they are calculated.

The tournaments are based on a point system.  With a full feild of 20 particiapnts or more, the 1st place guy gets 200 points, 2nd place gets 199, 3rd gets 198 and so on.

At the end of the year, the person with the highest points for there 6 best tournaments plus the points for one 2 day event wins the AOY title and trophy.

Wow, 6 tourneys plus the 2 dayer. Means you pretty much have to fish all eight 1 dayers to have a chance. Seems like it should be the best 4 or 5 tourneys.

Ok, thanks for the info.

Thats the point Gary ... This trophy and the 2-day trophies are paid for by the money we collect in our morning raffle (which is never enough to cover them) so there is some out of pocket expense for me every year.

I do the AOY trophy for the sole purpose to award the best angler who came out and fished the majority of our tournaments.

I don't feel it would be right to give the trophy to a guy who fished the bare minimum events (Four 1 days) - This angler probably fished only the lakes he likes or is good at. While another angler fished all the events and fished well in all of them. Thus proving he is the best angler on all bodies of water. Not just the ones he likes.

Andy Nowyorkas won the District 7 AOY he missed one tourney and had a 186, 191 & 192 as his 3 worst score . He was able to cull off the no show and the 186.

Hans D. won the District 69 AOY and he missed one tourney had a 190 and 192 score as his 2 worst.
