Title: Not much is more frustrating to me...
Post by: Waterfoul on February 26, 2013, 02:08:41 PM
I'm currently looking to hire 3-4 people for the spring/summer/fall season.  Young man was supposed to be here at 2:00 for an interview.  No show, no call.  Nothing could be more irresponsible to me as an employer looking to hire.  I do not want to hear "there are no jobs out there" when I can't even get people to show up for interviews.  Oh well, he looked good on paper.  No second chances granted barring an accident or something on his way here.

Word of advice to any young (or old!) person looking for a job... be on time!!  >:(

We just hired a temp in our A/P dept. She spends more time on her smart phone than trying to impress with work.

The old fashioned work ethnic seems for many to be a thing of the past.  Actually putting in an honest days work for and honest wage seems foreign.   It used to be employers were loyal to their workers and vice versa.  Not so anymore.
Today employers ship jobs over seas, and workers spend the day on the internet.  Employers want more for less, and employees want to do less for more.

Not showing up for an interview or calling is inexcusable.  Showing up for work late without calling is bad.  Not doing the job you're being paid for is just plain stealing.

I know the feeling, I worked at the same place for 25 years and was responsible for all of the hiring and firing.  Firing is the worst part of the job I think.  Now I find myself unemployed and I know what to do to get hired but I'm not sure what I want to do.  I did put in a ridiculous app in at bass pro though just because I thought it would be fun.  They never did call, but I know why.  For salary requirements I put $15000-$100000.  Mainly because I'm strange but also I was looking for a very part time job for fun but could be talked into 80+ hours a week as a real job if the pay was high enough.

and on a side note...  I REALLY want the job with Waterfoul.  I haven't been able to justify the 5 hour drive each way every day though.  Man that would be a great job.

I'll pay you enough to break even Frank!  In the long run you'll come out ahead though...  our associate discount is pretty good.  ;D
