Just read that B.A.S.S. will be having their All Star event on Muskegon lake the end of September. Should be fun to see what those guys can do.
Toyota Elite Series All-Star Week: Sept. 27-29 at Muskegon Lake (Muskegon, Mich.)
Holey Moley Oley! Can't hardly believe this!!!!!
Mike S do you have room on your boat for this ;D... Im msure your not going to miss out on this.
it's good to see some BIG tournment series comming into town
YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!?!?!?!?!
Bet on Lake Michigan being open. Bet on Lake Michigan being to rough that late in September for them to run anywhere safely. Should be fun chasing them around Muskegon Lake! I'm in!
I'm betting Lake Michigan is NOT open - mostly because they historically do limit these events to the body of water they are on, and to smaller bodies of water so that is my guess. Anything is possible though. I mean, we never had an Elite Series event IN Michigan before and now we have two BACK-TO-BACK!!
Pretty cool, huh? The final 2 Bassmaster Elite Series events IN Michigan! All the really good stuff gets decided IN Michigan at the end of their season. Plus, we could have a number of Michigan bass pros fishing both of these AND making the 2014 Classic!
One event on the East side and one event on the West side! How awesome is that! Kind of like Megawatt MadWags Memorials! I should be at both of them getting pictures and video. Maybe I can even get cameraguy to add his video expertise?!? I better take him fishing a few times this year!
I like that they are doing more with the student/college fishing at the All-Star events too.

Who knows... maybe we become a regular stop for the Elite Series?? We need to get some bigger facilities built in other places outside of Lake St. Clair.
The only problem I see is that I may have to move the Fall West MadWags Memorial 1 week into the future so I can cover the whole All-Star Week event? Not sure about that yet but I hate to miss out on a first like this since there won't be another first and it is fairly challenging to get these types of events in Michigan still. I'm hoping that starts changing but change can be slow sometimes. Not always.
i think i can use my boat as a "Chase/Camera" boat if needed. that would be kick azz
This is sweet! :)
I'm not sure how many camera boats they use for All-Star Week but I will eventually find out.

I don't see that as a problem Dan. I would go ahead and move it...this is a special occasion!!!

X2
I wonder how much influence KVD had on that decision
anyone know if they rent pontoons on Muskegon. Maybe rent one and have a group outing.

Thanks Cy! I'm thinking I need to do this too. Maybe I will even get my first ever back stage pass?!? ;D
I'm going to update the posting and pick a lake as soon as Outdoorama is done - so Monday.

Talk Mojo into a road trip and you're all set!
There are no pontoon rentals on Muskegon. As time gets closer, we can figure things out. I will have a pontoon, plus I have my bass boat. Muskegon is 5 minutes away from my house. Mr Laporte already contacted me about his boat getting stored here when not in use. This is definitely going to be awesome.
I have take cameraguy fishing a few times before then so he will come over and help with camera/video work. I'll also have to make sure he doesn't get any golf outing or multi-day sports outings.
I also have to give a HUGE shout out to B.A.S.S. and the University of Michigan for scheduling this event on a bye week for Wolverine Football! Awesome!!

;D i'm stunned myself
We have lots of water and good fishing. It should happen more often. Maybe it will...
Wow, my home lake is gonna host a BASS event. This is kind of surreal.
Hopefully the City of Muskegon doesn't screw this up.
We can help them avoid that. Let's get some good crowds down there every day doing some hollerin'! I will post details about events and activities as I find out about them. I would like to see B.A.S.S. in Michigan every year.
I am really hoping that they will not allow people to fish from the docks at Fisherman's on that weekend. It will really look bad for us if a group of the best anglers in the world hit our waters and watch the fish they weigh get snagged after they are released. It is bad on tournament nights down there. I'm willing to bet that Muskegon will screw this up too. It is almost inevitable. We will see.
My wife and I were talking about this last night. She says, "Do you think those guys are going to catch really big fish here? There aren't big ones in Muskegon. " I told her that we will probably be amazed at what we see go across the scales. They are programmed to find monsters, and there's no doubt in my mind Muskegon has them. Just have to be found.
I doubt they will release at the dock Mike. They usually take the fish out into the lake. Lets hope so anyway.
No details yet. They may not weigh in there. I expect all those details will be handled in a cooperative effort.
There are plenty of big fish in Muskegon Lake. It has always been a productive lake for lots of fish and big fish of many kinds.
They could go all out and do the weigh in at the Walker Arena. Then they could drive in just like at the Classic. Regardless, I will be there.

Except when I fish it
the low water over the last 5 years has put a damper on the fishing there. its still pretty good when compared to a lot of places. The fish are there, it will be interesting to see how these guy do and maybe learn a few fresh perspectives on the lake as well.

You've seen the city leaders in action too I see.
Been watching it since 1995. It's truly disappointing to see the great things they have killed. The air show, Summer Celebration. Next will be Bike Time, and then BASS will not want to come back either. That's just an assumption, but it seems to be the trend.
Mcfish, have we met before?
How about LET'S NOT LET THAT HAPPEN?!? I'm hoping to keep B.A.S.S. coming back as often as possible!
You and me both. It is really exciting to have an event like this so close to home for a change. It would be really cool to have an Elite Series tournament here one day. There is so much water to cover, and so many awesome lakes connected to Lake Michigan. It could be an amazing event. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Sorry that I'm so cynical about the city. But their amount of fail regarding events is epic. I'll be happy to volunteer during the week leading up to the event if needed.

I don't think so. Lifelong Ravenna guy here. We should go fishing some time.
Hey Dan, do you know how we can go about siging up or volunteering to be camera/chase boats for this event?

Seriously? Ravenna? I work at Metal Technologies in Ravenna. I've been there 11 years now.

Not yet. They often offer first dibs in some events to the local B.A.S.S. federation but I wonder if this event isn't an exception due to the size? I will find out as much as I can at the end of the month at the D & R spring show.
There were a couple of updates in the Muskegon Chronicle yesterday.
BASS will be in town sometime in April to plan the festivities which are being billed as a family oriented event that will be held at Heritage Landing.
They will be taking a look at Muskegon Lake along with White Lake. It's great that they're including other waters in the tournament. It will be interesting to see the different tactics/spots they come up with.
In addition to the dozen pro's, four college teams will compete against each other. I'm anxious to see the young guns go at it.
Heritage Landing is a great spot for the event in my opinion. And I'm encouraged that the Muskegon County Community Development/Muskegon County Convention & Visitors Bureau is overseeing the event.
It sounds like after the April meeting, local organizers will begin to gather volunteers.
Thanks for the updates. I hope to find out more this weekend. Please share any news you hear and I will do the same from the B.A.S.S. end whenever I can.
We need to make this a huge event! Why?!? Because I want - and I bet most of you do too - more big tournaments in Michigan!
I was hoping they would keep it just on Muskegon, being as there are so few anglers. That, and I'm being cheap. Don't want to follow anyone to White. Sick of these gas prices.
Regardless, I totally agree with Dan. We need to make this huge. Would love to see an Elite Series event here in West Michigan.
They will launch on White. They won't run their boats on Lake Michigan. That's my hunch.
Probably all 16 anglers fish the first 2 days on Muskegon Lake, then make the final 2 or 4 cut - whatever it is this year - and the finalists will fish on White Lake. That is my guess because of their previous formats.
We'll find out soon enough. Regardless, tell everyone to be there to watch and have fun at the activities!
