Title: Orchard Lake ramp
Post by: Got Fish?? on January 20, 2013, 04:37:11 PM
Has anyone gone out to Orchard Lake to check out the new launch?  Is it in the same spot, is it nicer?

The parking lot is complete and looks pretty nice. I don't think they did too much with the ramp itself.

I was just driving by there yesterday and noticed the new lot.  It looks larger.  I have not fished that lake in years.  How is it?

Ramp is in same place. New exit lane with tie down area for 3 or 4 boats. Nice setup.

Thanks for the info on the ramp. Fishing on the lake can be vary good at times, or not so good other times. Depending on whether and  time of year. At times the lake can have a lot of pleasure boats on  it.

The new parking lot looks a lot bigger and nicer.  I'm eager for spring to roll around.  I missed out on the late-season action on Orchard last year.  I've mostly done well out there - just need to pick the times to avoid the power boaters.

I dropped a camera down along Apple Island and saw a big school of Crappie a few summers back.

Fished it twice last summer with NBAA div 40.  I think only 1/2 the field weighed a fish both times.  Looks like it is on the schedule twice this summer.  Might have to go bowling those nights.

Landed my two biggest fish last year out of Orchard. I also had two 40 fish days there last year. Of course it wasn't  on a tournament night.

I pass the launch every day to and from work. The launch has been totally resurfaced and the the traffic pattern has been changed. The DNR is now utilizing the whole property and traffic should flow better.

As far as fishing Orchard, it is one of my favorite inland lakes and I always do well there. Last year I won the NBAA Oakland County One in One Division Tournament there targeting transition fish. I had a mix bag of smallmouth and largemouth. I was using spinnerbaits, crankbaits, worms, and tubes.

Took the mrs. and the dog today.  The launch ramps and docks haven't changed, but there is a new tie-down/ exit lane....
