Title: Randy VanDam's New Optic Popper - as seen in BASS TIMES
Post by: djkimmel on December 10, 2006, 12:34:04 AM
Okay - I'm a little behind in my reading. I just finished the article in BASS TIMES on Randy VanDam's new Optic Popper (http://www.greatlakesbass.com/images/bfopticpopperm.jpg) designed for and available exclusively through D & R Sports Center. The article had me thinking I've got to try one next spring (and summer and fall). I drew Randy in a tournament years ago and he is a fish-catching son-of-a-gun!

I don't expect him to put out a lure that doesn't catch 'em pretty darn good. It's a good looking premium lure, so when I'm trying mine next year, I will be doing my best to avoid pike and other toothie critters.

You can always call D & R Sports Center and order anything by phone: 800-992-1520

You can also order the Optic Popper online and/or just check it out at: D & R Sports Online Store - Optic Popper (https://secure13.nexternal.com/shared/StoreFront/default.asp?CS=dandrsport&BusType=BtoC&Count1=238475978&Count2=155616402&ProductID=121&Target=products.asp)

saw a tank demo on this lure last year at the Bassmaster Classic...it was kind of a hush hush, private demo that myself and Ken Miller got to see.  Doug Strickland was there with the traveling bass tank, evidently he has been working on this lure with Randy.  those starved tank bass couldn't leave it alone.

Curado Kev had one last summer. He showed it to me. He rolls with the Vandams' so it did not suprise me. That bait looks like it will make one heck of a BLOOP!

'matuzos?' Are those made in South Africa??

But seriously, I hate spending $10 or $15 for a lure too, but I did by a Splash-it and a couple Sugoi's, so I figure I should spring for at least one of these. I figure at minimum I need to get one just for self-defense, because I bet they really do work.

FWIW, guys have been catching some good fish last summer on the RVD baits. But it's like everything else, there is a time and a place for everything  ;)

My plan on topwater is simple...

Calm - Kenpop Popper - Not made anymore and never will be. Great lure..

Ripple - LC Sammy 100 - Aurora Black

RVD's lure will be good for east side were the fish are bigger than the natural lakes around Kazoo. Plus, should be good in muddier water with that big ol POP !!

Ckev

PS - $15 is cheap when comparing to $45 cranks handmade from Japan and Megabass Ito 110 jerkbaits ($60 each). And then Jackall - my next favorite.

PPS - As I get older and fatter, I'm refining down to just a few choice baits that catch fish. The problem is: I'm always looking for the "secret" bait and that costs you money in the end  ;D

Curado Kev convinced me to try one, (Purchased from D&R) and with the very limited time I used it I liked the action. (no catches on it, maybe this spring)  Normally I can't afford the high end lures Kev buys  :D  but I broke into the Kids piggy bank for this one...

i think they are made in China where everything comes from these days.
bought some at Walmart cause they looked good.  the smallmouth seem to really love them.  Got one big bass award on cass and just missed 2 others with the same popper.  i think i am on my 4 or fifth rear hook.  they eat the feathers off.

Yeah - I make my own trailers when I have time out of Krystal Flash - tougher and lots of colors to choose from with good multi-tiny flashes (new word I just made up - multi-tiny).
