Man, this wind sucks. I have time off of work, and decided I was going fishing this morning. I drove up to Pere Marquette Lake with my dad this morning. I was hoping for some of those big smallies that Waterfoul and I caught last week up there. Nope, didn't happen. There was not a single spot on that lake where you can get out of the wind. We gave it almost 4 hours. I got 3 solid bites, and got bit off by a toothy critter.
Tomorrow, it's off to Great Wolf Lodge for three days with the family. Don't care what the weather does because the water park will be warm, and the beer will be cold! Now that's a good forecast.
Fished this weekend on Kent and Cass. Thought it was nasty saturday on Kent. You could get out of the wind so it was not to bad. Cass was almost funny. By noon it had to be blowing 30 mph or higher. My trolling motor steering cable broke so we did downwind drifts all afternoon. Coming back upwind made me think I was on st-clair. 3 footers on a inland lake. Did catch a lot of fish on a spinnerbait.
There were whitecapps on the Torch river today. Took almost a hour and a half to get upriver from the stump field to the launch on the east shoreline.
Sorry to hear that Mike. I wondered if you went up there or not.
Jeff and I were up that way Sunday and Monday. Sunday wasn't too bad, we got some decent ones on PM (left some for you for sure!). Even caught a salmon IN THE MOUTH on a beaver down by the chemical plant. Monday we fished Manistee in the morning until it got too windy to even hold with the motor on 100%. Caught some nice ones till it got windy then the bite just quit. Stopped. Shut off. We pulled the boat out and headed down to Pentwater. Hit the lake around noon and by 5:00 or so we got 24 decent fish topped by a 4-12 that Jeff caught. We found a spot where the fish were schooled up and had fun for about a half hour! When the wind is from the north like it was all weekend most of the lakes up that way get very hard to fish.
Yeah, I was bummed. Oh well.
Thanks for fighting the wind with the trolling motor Mike. Was nice to be in the back of the boat for a change. We did very well considering the wind. It was a lot of fun.

I'll fight a lot of wind when there's smallies to be caught!
