I just wanted to let everyone who may still be fishing know of the danger that lurks just below the surface at Fisherman's.
A couple days before the Fall MadWags, my dad and I launched the boat and headed out. The water is down quite a ways on Muskegon, and I hit something about 12 feet off the end of the second dock from the north. I told people about it, and they looked at me like I was crazy. Well, I'm not. I saw it the other day. There is a metal pipe standing almost straight up and down off the end of the dock. I broke the skeg off my motor when I hit it.
You have to wonder if they are going to trade that place off. It almost seems as if they are just letting it go right down the tubes. They have two of the ramps blocked off, and there's a big outboard wrecker off the end of a dock.
But anyways, I hope this helps save someone's outboard, or bottom.
Thanks for the heads up Mike!
I had a similar experience on St. Clair a few weeks ago. I was coming in to the 11 Mile ramp and had to hug the edge due to a big boat hogging the channel. I managed to bump a rock or something. No significant damage, just a small ding in the prop. But with low water in many places right now, you need to be extra careful.
So true about being careful. All the drowned rivermouths are low big time. Manistee, Pere Marquette etc. I hit a piling in 13 feet of water real close to the south launch on Manistee a couple weeks ago. Must have just hit it with the bottom fin, no damage. :-\'
I have been through that spot so many times throughout the years with all of my boats. Never have I hit anything. I think they should really do something about it. Props and lower units aren't cheap.
It's scary what is down there in all those old industrial drowned river mouths! Pretty much most other rivers too!
BTW, I declare you no longer Stupid Mike. You can now be Smart Mike! So says I...
Ummmm Yeah, guess I didn't hear why or how you changed your screen name Mike. :-\'
It wasn't me... I'm just trying to help.

It's all Cy's fault! He's been joking with me calling me that for a couple years now. I figured I would run with it. It's funny. I'm not afraid to be laughed at.

Says the man who falls out of his boat at ramps all over Michigan. ::)
See! No fear. I didn't have to share that story. But it made people laugh. I'm good with that.

French Fry is always good for some great Moron support!
;D ;D
Ummmmmmmm..........?
hahahahahaha
Yup, I am THAT funny. Just ask me.
Jeff, I think he's calling you names. He couldn't be calling me a moron. We're fishing from the same boat Monday, and the water is kinda chilly this time of year. Yep, I'm sure he was directing that to you.

Hmmm.... I might have to think about this one.
OK, I thought about it. Both of you are quite a bit bigger than me, so I'm calling you'all names sitting here hiding behind my computer where I'm nice and safe. ;D
I hope you have really good wireless internet. If not, it will be hard to hide behind your computer Monday while we're fishing. ;D

Say it with me:
4G Smart Phone! LOLOLOL!!
Sorry bud, but that's not going to help you out. There's only one fisherman I know that could hide behind a smart phone, and you are not him.

LOL! And he's out deer hunting anyway.
I just scored a Go Pro camera to play with this weekend... maybe we can get some way cool video of giant smallies!
Right on. I had one of them. I found it at Dick's marked $99.99. When I asked if that was right, the guy said no. He said it doesn't show up in the inventory, so they would actually sell it for half of the last marked price. I got it out the door with a warranty for under $60 new. Then it sat for a year, and I sold it.
