Title: Burt/Mullett Lake
Post by: Kkellogg13 on October 04, 2012, 07:47:35 PM
For anyone thinking about heading up to either of these lakes in the near future, I can say the fishing is awesome right now!

I was up there September 28-30th, and had an incredible time. The Smallies are schooling up and running shallow, and by shallow, i mean catching them in 1-2 ft. of water and some out to about 8 or 10 ft.

I don't think I caught anything under 3 lbs. that whole weekend, and also set a new personal record just shy of 7.5 lbs.

If anyone is heading up there and doesn't know the two lakes very well or what to use up there I'd be more than happy to give whatever advice i can.

Nice fish for sure!  We were on Mullett last Fri-Sat and managed 15 fish with the biggest being around 5.5#.  I have only been on Burt once and it was in the summer.  I only caught a few small ones then. I'd like to learn more about Burt sometime (and Mullett).  The more you go the more you learn. Hopefully the Fall bite is on!   ;D

Nice fish. Mainly Mullet or Burt or both? Also, what kind of accomadations do they have there ? Price? Availability? In case you know.

Mainly Burt Lake, Spent half of the first day on Mullett and the water was very cloudy, so the rest of the weekend was on Burt. I'm hoping to go up there again next weekend. I just wish gas wasn't $4.00/gal!

As far as accommodations, i stay at the Stargate motel, its very cheap "especially because of the off-season pricing". Prices are $52.00-$78.00 a night, and they also offer a house and mobile home you can rent, which is nice if you go up with a larger group of people. There are a couple great restaurants within walking distance of the motel "Vivio's and the Brown Trout" So you don't have to unhook your boat and go to dinner. Also there is a gas station right on the way to the State park launch on Burt Lake.

Took me a while to learn the patterns up there.
i've been fishing those lakes for years, but not in the fall, usually in the spring. Last weekend was interesting with the full moon we had. One day we were just slayin them, the next day they were shut down, i would guess due to feeding all night, so you had to change up your style and get that reaction bite going.

I haven't been out since last sat. But not bad. Probably average 7 keepers an hr. Some days more some less.

I think lots of eating was going on during the full moon. The fishing was slow, but not that terrible (as predicted or talked about), for the MadWags on Skeg. The bass caught looked like they had gorged very well already for early fall! Hope to get results and pictures up in the next 2 or 3 days. Lots going on right now.

I was up there last sat-tues and the bite was up and down. No giants for us but had about 50 4-5 1/4 pounders on the trip, big fish was only 5-12. We hit three lakes on Tues and the bite slowed wayyy down only got one good one. We were limited on where we could fish, it blew 15-25mph every day. I am heading up with a couple buddies this thursday evening with the conditions they are calling for we are starting friday on Burt I expect them to be shallow that day.
