Title: Lake Charlevoix Report & Personal Best
Post by: mwagner0071 on October 03, 2012, 03:18:23 PM
A buddy and I fished Lake Charlevoix early last week. I had to visit Petoskey for work and decided to pull the boat up and get out as much as I could.

Sunday PM we fished the main lake for a few hours late in the day and only managed 1 nice smallie.  Wind was way up and it was hard to control the boat or drift for that matter.

Monday AM we stuck to the South Arm as the wind forecast called for high winds.  Only managed 1 fish before the winds pushed us off the lake, but it was a dandy.  My personal best.  Hit the spinnerbait like a truck.  Boga scale had it between 6 - 6 1/2 pounds.  Wish I would have measured it and put it on the digital scale.

Wednesday AM we hit the South Arm again stayed down near East Jordan.  Mangaged 2 nice smallies and 2 nice eyes, which we took home.

Fishing was tough.  Lake weeds were dying.  Water temps were between 58 - 60 degrees.  I hope to make it up again in a couple of weeks.  Love to fish the lake.  Not quantity, but sure is quality fishing.

Great job on the smallie. I've fished Charlevoix a few times & had decent success. The South Arm has some great looking structure. I stayed in East Jordan for several days last year. I caught the largemouth in my avatar in the S. Arm close to the campground. Also caught my first seagull on a pop-r. Decided to fish next to the condo one morning & hooked the gull in the beak & foot. Was not fun, especially since my wife was on the deck enjoying a cup of coffee and witnessed the entire fiasco. Managed to cut the hooks with the hook cutters I had in my boat which was tied up. Good luck if you manage get back up there.
