Title: Tackle Stores In Grand Rapids
Post by: Skulley on September 26, 2012, 02:06:54 PM
In the coming weeks and into next spring, I will be making several trips to the Grand Rapids area for soccer games. While I'm there, I would like to check out any tackle shops. I would appreciate any suggestions from the locals on the forum of which ones I should check out. Any help is appreciated. Any non-locals familiar with the tackle shops there please chime in also. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Al n Bobs near 28th street and Division.  The Outdoorsmen Pro Shop in Jenison are 2 that come to mind of the local variety.

Thanks Genie.  If there are any others that come to mind let me know.  I'll check those out while I'm there.

BD if you come to Grand Rapids, I'd be available to act as a tour guide to tackle shops and food stops. Al and Bobs, Outdoorsman, Dicks, Gander, and a place out on the north end that I just learned about. Just give me a shout. If you go to my website teardropbass.com the contact button goes right to me. I check it daily.

Better also squeeze in a trip to Waterfowl's basement and especially eddyer's pole barn - you wont be disappointed! LOL

The one on the north side is in Comstock Park and it's called Red Sky Outfitters.  Nice guys (they fish our Monday nighters) and some decent stuff.

Dan... Not sure I'd call Jenison "town" or not... but you're welcome to come visit anytime!  My basement has nothing over Ed's polebarn though... I'm just more organized.

Definitely visit Al and Bob's.  Tell them Mike at West Marine sent you!  By the way, my basement is only 5 blocks from Al and Bob's.   ;D

I was out to GR on Saturday and Sunday. The only time I had for hitting stores was spent going to the two Gander Mountains and the two Dick's stores. Next trip depending on time I will try to hit the others. Did have pizza at Vitale's. Alec said it was the best we have had on the road for soccer.

Also, thanks for the tour guide offer Dan. I did pretty good I guess considering time.

Check out the fishing at the 6th street dam. They get a good run of salmon and steelhead.  We usually park on the east side to watch.  Looks pretty scary where those guys wade out to fish.

I went to 6th street just to check it out yesterday.  The water was low and the current was slow.  The fishing didnt look much better.  Seen some small fish that did not look that lively.  There was about 30 fisherman in the river though.
