Anyone fish any of these lakes outside of Traverse city? I heard they are good but haven't tried them. They are about 20 ,25 min from my cottage. Just wondering if its worth the trip?
i have a friend that panfishes for specs on spider - seems like its pretty good for that. don't know about bass however... i would imagine they are decent, hard to find a "bad" lake in that area.
It has been 12 yrs since I last fished Spider Lake. Used to take my family there every Memorial day weekend with several other families. We stayed at L'Da'Ru resort which is now gone. The lake is great to fish because it is no wake until 11:00 AM or it was back then. We always caught alot of bass and rock bass. It has some decent size fish. It also has a decent smallmouth population. I wish I could fish it again because back then I had no idea what I was doing. With the knowledge I have gather over the last several yrs plus the electronics I now have I think I could do well on the smallies.
There was cabin there that had a float plane. That bank was get for smallies. Just back off to the weedline and fish. We used to fish Arbutus as well. It had bigger largemouths but the bites were less. Both are clear sandy bottom lakes so the fish can see your coming.
If you end up going let us know how the fishing was. The boat ramp there is excellent. Writing this I wish I was there.
Good luck,
Mark
There is a couple rentals there i've been looking at for next year. On vrbo.com. Spider lake that is. Nice place to chill with the family and get some fishing in.
