Title: Late Report 7/16
Post by: tubechucker on July 22, 2012, 12:38:47 PM
Sorry for the late report.  Fished from 7 to 12 out of Harley.  Thanks to UAW Big Dog for a little help on where the fish might be because i haven't been out in a month.  Had a friend from work who has never fished before so I stopped and got a few shiners.  We headed out to the main lake and fished from 8 to 10fow and found a little spot that produced about 15 fish in about 90 minutes.  His first bite was a 4.5 lber and we caught several others around 3lbs.  I took a few fish on a zoom finesse drop shot and xtreme bass tube in triple threat.  There was no wind so it was easy to stay on the spot but the bugs were BRUTAL.  The spot died down a bit so we took a ride into the river system and stumbled on a few more fish all from 2 to 3lb.   The dock bit with the right depth paid off well too.  We pulled up to one spot I usually do well at and I gave my buddy a hula grub and told him to throw it at the wall and let it drop, boom 6.2lber.  Biggest smallmouth i have held in my hand.  Monster, he is now spoiled for life and doesn't even know it because his first trip was 6.3, a couple well over 4lb, and a half dozen over 3lbs.

Probably thirty bites total with over 3lbs being the average.  The lake bite was good with shiners but the river was tubes, drop shot and the hula grub.  Usually I struggle to find and catch in the summer but this was one of the best day I have had in July.

Water temps were 76 to 78 in the main lake and 73 to 75 in the channels.

Glad I could help out. Always nice when a newcomer such as your buddy can catch some fish. He won't want to fish any where else except LSC from now.
