Title: Hardy Dam 5-6-12
Post by: Genie on May 07, 2012, 08:08:40 AM
Spent a couple of hours on Hardy with a buddy and had a blast.  Water was MUDDY to say the least, but there were some areas that were clear.  We launched by the State Park and some areas were clear there.

The smallies are definitely starting to come up on the beds.  Saw quite a few pairs on beds and quite a few of beds that were starting to be cleaned off.  The fish were SPOOKY so you had to be patient.

Some fish are moving on the main river bedding areas, but it was more consistent in the clear cuts down river.  Never made it south of the State Park, but I'm sure it was even better down there with clearer water.  Temps varied from 52-57 and clarity for a white tube was from 3 inches to 6 feet.  You had to look hard for the clear water, but it was there.

Fish are not locked on beds yet.  The droves of fish are not on the beds either.  But, you can definitely find some right now if you know what you are looking for :)

If we have some warm and stable weather with no rain, I'd give it a week or two and it will be lights out for an easy pickings type trip.

Sounds like it should be a good opener.  You should grab Brett and fish your old division on the opener.

It definitely is fun, but I never have enough time to find the big fish beds ahead of time that you need.  I'm only good for my 16 or 17 pound beds ...
