Launched about 630 after sleeping in.. Alarm was going off for an hour so not a good start. Met my partner at ramp and the weather seemed to perfect. As we headed over to my spot I had visions of 5lbers inhaling my swimbaits. I kill the engine and deploy the troling motor hit the pedal and nothing. Well not really nothing more of a s..l...o...w... Spin. Oh crap. I had the charger on all night so what the heck. Must have run the batteries way too hard last weekend and the onboard couldn't recharge it. Not the first time its happened.
So bed fishing and dock fishing was a bit of a problem in the light wind. water was 60-61 deg most of the lake. Saw quite a few bedding fish. Landed a nice 5lb largemouth that hit a goby replica in the looker pattern. Other than that couple of dinks that hit rattle baits and a runty pike. Most of the lake was slightly dingy and the water was high. It was hard trying to have the wind push me where I wanted to fish. Oh well sure beats cutting grass or working.
Tough luck Brad. I'm sure you and others are familiar with this, but I'll mention it anyway. I had a issue when this boat was fairly new. I had a battery go so low it reversed polarity. I've since learned I need to turn the TM to off after every use. The "rediness" of the TM draws on the battery all the time. My last boat had a similar Minn Kota and I never shut off the TM. Not sure what the difference is, but they have been pretty much fine since then. Oh and I'm not all that up on the electrical terms and such, but you should get the just of it.
I was told by a mechanic(dont remeber where or who) that my onboard charger will not recharge if i really hammer the batteries low. I always turn my motor of at the pedal and the fuse. This time i didnt. So not sure what really caused it. I pit them both on a trickle charger all afternoon. Seem good to go now.
I fished that lake real late in the fall once. It was choked pretty good with weeds at the time, but it sure looked good. My first impression was it had potential to hold some really good sized bass.
Late summer and fall are really good for me out there. Lots of big bass on jigs.
That Goby Replica sounds to be a pretty good bait. Did you get that largemouth off of a bed? I'm thinking I might pick up a few while I'm over to LSC this weekend. What rod and line do you use?
Yes off a bed. Im using 25 lb bps floro and 7-6 med heavy fast action rod.
About the same here Brad. Battery got so low the onboard charger wouldn't charge it. Took it to Interstate and he said something about possibly being reversed in polarity. Short time later the other battery did the same. After some investigation they thought the problem was the TM not being shut off. Like I said, I never shut it off on the previous boat and TM.
