Title: The Goby Replica
Post by: raisinrat on May 03, 2012, 07:09:55 AM
Not sure how many of you guys have seen these baits from Joe Balog. If you been in the shop you might have seen a chewed up one on the counter in the shop. We have these in stock in the store and online(we are the only retail store in the country with them). I would like to hear what you guys think of these sweet little buggers.

I know Joe Balog work really hard on this bait and it took him several years to get it to market. Joe is the person that started the Goby lure thing when he worked with Poor Boys to design there Goby bait. The action on these is just like how a Goby swims on the bottom.

1oz your going to want to throw them on a 7 to 8 foot heavy rod 14 to 20 Fluorocarbon or braid.A swim bait rod would make a good rod choice for this bait. The Mojo Swimbait rod has been treating me good while fishing it.

The pike do love them, some of the local kids that have been fishing the Goby Replica (https://www.sportsmensdirect.com/store/index.php?cPath=23_107_215&osCsid=a274355ace2f4327172a5d3513fc1c33) are catching some very nice pike on it. Best thing to do if your afraid you might lose it to a toothy fish , fish it on braid of at least 30lb test.

I got a couple of those. Haven't fished it yet, I haven't been on Erie yet either. I am going to try it eventually on St. Clair. I am sure they will work there or anywhere there are Gobies.

They work great on lsc.  Smallies inhale them yet the are easy to unhook.  Used the "looker" color to hook a 5lb largie on orion.

I like them. You can throw them on the beds, smallmouth don't really like a goby sittin on their bed. I have a money band color one that the paint is peeling off of.

Sounds like you caught a few it then.  ;D

I recently lost a money band that had 50 plus fish on it. there was only a little paint left on the back of the bait. But it kept catching fish.

I got to pull them out to try it. I should have thrown them last year when I got them.

Now I'm really missing St. Clair. Those baits look awesome too.
