Upper Crooked Lake
4-30-2012
Noon-7pm
We headed out to Upper Crooked in Delton, MI today with high hopes of the monster bass we slammed last year out there. We launched and headed right over to the major pad fields near the school, this resulted in a high number of pike being caught with only a few small bass being boated. In order to fish this pattern we used a Krypton swim jig with a nickel Advantage willow blade and an Assassinator Clacker in chartreuse and white. Both of these baits proved to stand up to the pike bite with the largest pike being just over 28".
As that pattern didn't work out for the bass we headed out to the major flat with a brown craw Jackall TN70 and a Rayburn red Cotton Cordell Super Spot. This pattern was also hit or miss but it is the one that resulted in the lunkers of the trip. The water temp was in the lower 50s but was on it ways down a few degrees with the cold rain that fell today while we were out. We are expecting the water to make a quick jump up to 55 degrees with the 80 degree days on the way.
