Title: Lake Mitchell
Post by: TheLefthander on April 04, 2012, 09:45:24 PM
Moved to Cadillac last year. Retired. House on Lake Mitchell. Fished 5-6 days a week, one of very few bass fishermen on the lake, except for tournaments. Spent winter in East Texas, learned some new baits and techniques. Cant wait to try them. Good life, make pot of coffee, walk to boat, fishing in 5 minutes. Dont do tournaments. Have had great success on Lake Mitchell, rarely cross the channel to Lake Cadillac. Go to bait last year was wacky rigged Senko, try some new East Texas baits this year. Didn't have my dock and boat on the water until 2nd week of May last year, should be 3-4 weeks earlier this year. Then go after some sunfish until real season opens. Explore the water for weed growth, maybe find some new prospects. Dang, I love this sport!

Hey "Lefty",

First let me say Welcome to GLB and I hate you!!!!    ;D

I don't want to hear about your Texas winters and Cadillac summers!  I am in west MI all year around working and not fishing as much as I would like to.

Lake Mitchell is a great lake!  I have fished many tournaments up there and vacationed there too.  I hope the season up there is awesome this year and catch them well.  Have you found any smallies yet?

Cy

A few smallies in June, then zip until mid-September, and just about every one was 2 1/2 or better.

Welcome to Cadillac, what does your boat look like and I will look for you on Mitchell or Cadillac if you make it over there this year. I will be spending more time this year on both lakes then normal this year do to gas prices. I've found that these lakes are good in spring and fall, but can be hard in the summer months. GOOD FISHING !

You want smallies in the summer you'll have to go under that little bridge into the "other" lake.   ;D

You're right, I need to get over on Lake Cadillac, got a bit lazy last year and just stayed on Mitchell. Found about 5 spots that were always reliable and just went there over and over. Couple of weed areas in about 8' of water, the coves, and one weed bed about 50 yards out in front of my house when I was real lazy. Didn't even crank up the big motor. This year I plan to fish both lakes, explore more areas. Do the same thing with baits...If I am catching them on a 5" Senko, wacky-rigged, why try anything else? I go weeks without changing lures, except maybe color.
