I'm looking for an online place to store fishing logs.
I would like it to have the following features:
Easy to store data. (moon phase, time, temp, water clarity etc.)
Easy to analyze data and make predictions.
Be able to mark spots fished on a map, maybe even record lat/long.
Be able to share logs with other members of my club without making the log open to the public.
For those of you have tried this, would you post a review of which one(s) you have tried?
Strike King has an app you can download onto your iphone
http://www.fisharc.com/
You can share the data with only people on your friends list. I started using it at the end of last year and it was pretty good. I'm looking forward to giving it a bit more time this year.
I saw the Strike King one but I only have a dumb phone.
I found the Fish Arc one and am playing with it and 1 or 2 more to see which one I like best.
Genie wants me to help him test his new online Genielogs.com but I've been busy with website jobs and my existing websites and family stuff. You might want to contact him. From what I have seen, he is putting a lot of time into the design of a new and improved online fishing log system that can do more.
Because Genie is a sponsor I went to his site first to see what he had. It seems like he's geared more for the tourney fisherman.
Plus, I was hoping to set this up on line for the entire club for free.
Ah. Let him know if you would - he may see this too since he checks in fairly often. It helps a designer to know the kinds of things anglers are looking for. I don't remember all his final plans but they are pretty far-reaching. Hope you find what you need. I'm a terrible logger. Just ask Genie ;D
Fiker - there is definitely a lot of things in the system for tournament guys, but there are just as many things for the every day fisherman. Everyone gathers logs, shares waypoints and such ... that is all in there. I am working on some "member" access features right now to allow for a group of members to have a site within a site for "their eyes only" type stuff. You would still have access to all the regular stuff, but then you could have special areas just for your group.
I'm just trying to lock down a release so I can get it going ... but I keep thinking of new stuff or people mention cool ideas so I start working on them ... I will have more updates soon. I finally have some beta testers that are enthusiastic and getting me the feedback I need.
I'm going to try the Strike King app, it has good ratings and I have a smartphone.
Ouch! I think that 'finally have beta testers' comment is mostly my fault!! Sorry...
No you Dan - you have work to do .. it's the other little big mouth guy that gets laid off in the winter that hasn't tested anything ...
Whew... I feel better now. Thanks!
That's ok ... Cy and TheDude are helping me right now. Already made tremendous headway.
For those of you that are wondering about what we're talking about, checkout www.genielogs.com (http://www.genielogs.com). Anyone can signup for free for the basic features.
Genie,
I'm not sure what a beta tester is but I may be interested in helping you out.
I've been trying out these online sights by putting in practice fishing trips and then running analysis on them. So far I haven't seen quite what I want.
These sites have lots of information that can be plugged in, but in the analysis portion it doesn't do anything with some of the data.
Being able to keep our club's data private within the club would be paramount.
The club part might take a bit, but we can at least get you signed up and have you start playing with the system.
A beta tester is basically a guinea pig. You go through the system and try to break things then let me know what you found so I can fix it. Beta sites usually changed features and functions quickly as everything is considered in testing. A screen could change from one day to the next - all in the hopes of making it better and more stable. Beta testing means things are broken and you will have problems in certain areas. As long as you understand that and are willing to put up with some trial and error and being very detailed in relaying information to me, pm me with your email address and I will get you setup.
Who has time for an online fishing log!!?? Work... fish...post on GLB.... fish some more. No time! If I had an online log I wouldn't be able to do one of those things. I have to work, I have to fish, so I guess it would be GLB that gets cut so I could keep a log. I just can't do that to Dan and all the GLB members who anxoiusly await my every post!! ;D
Whew..!! Thanks! I better go stop Genie before it's too late ;D
