We are still in need of quite a few more boaters to take out these less fortunate kids on our July 22 Cass Lake Fish'n'Friends youth day. Please consider helping make a child or two or three very happy for a day.
We'll have food there afterwards, and have life vests, bait and tackle lined up for the kids thanks to some great sponsors. We mostly need anglers to take more of the kids out. Please.
Get with me if you can help out and make some kids feel special for a day - they really need it.
Where is Cass lake and what time is the event. I will be at St Clair for the Bassmaster Sunday, and maybe I will have a chance to come over Saturday if it is close and short enough.
I can make it that day. What time? Give me a reminder when it gets a little closer so I don't forget.
Sounds like a great event but of course I have to work that day. If you need stuff to give away though, I know I can come up with something.

Cass Lake is in Pontiac - I don't have the exact times yet, but hoping it will be 4 or 5 hours mostly in the morning. I'm checking with Anthony Adams on the time he has set yet. Hope you can make it, but I understand the summer schedules.
On another note, Eric did you tell me you were going to fish the TBF of MI state championship as a boater on 7/30? If so, I have a nonboater to guaranty you now. Please let me know asap.

Thanks Bill. I'm adding you to the list. It should be in the morning, but I'm waiting for exact times from Anthony Adams and will let you know as soon as I have them.

Well, you gotta make a living. If you have stuff to donate, we will take it. Thanks.
When do you need the final #'s by? I think I will be able to come, but I'm not 100% yet.
Dan Please PM me with where to send a rod to donate. I wont be able to make it but I have a rod to donate.
Disclaimer: I love Airrus rods, they rock.
However, I have a brand new 6 foot MH rod that would be great for a youngster but it is just too short for my taste. Again, it's brand new, dipped in the water once. It's a baitcaster though, I dont know the age range of the kids or skill level. If a baitcaster is too complicated for them maybe you could put it in the raffle bucket and make some donation money off it that way.

We'll take volunteers as late as possible - say a week before the event approximately. We can always add more kids and I don't expect we will get enough boats to take them all (unfortunately).

GREAT!! Thanks Grant. I'm adding you to the list as a boater.
Can you email your phone contact number (don't post your phone number here) to djkimmel@greatlakesbass.com please? Thanks.

From organizer Anthony Adams - the times we need boaters at the boat ramp at Cass Lake, and can anyone (Bill?) give an estimate on how many people can sit in a 20x20 tent (we may need some help putting a tent or tents up on Friday too - I will contact the nonboater volunteers too)?

Dan,
The park opens the gates at 8am but I asked them to open a few minutes earlier, the kids will arrive shortly after that. I am going to ask that boats be there at 7:45am. We will fish 4-4 1/2 hours then come back and eat ending around 2-2:30pm I have the ok to put up a tent the night before on Friday if we need ..
How many people will a 20x20 tent hold? Someone told me we would need a 20x40 tent... what do you think?
Dan,
Looks like your doing a great job of getting the word out.
I am attempting to scrape up boaters now and I will get a list to you tonight or tommorow. We still need more boaters.
We need a group to volunteer to put up tents on Friday evening.
I placed Alex E in charge of organizing the tent probelm. Please pass al tent info onto him.
If anyone has one large 20x40 tent or knows where we could get one for free let us know.
I am meeting with Gander Mtn in the morning and I will try my best to get then to step up big time once again this year.
I should be able to be there. I am returning from Houston fri night, so barring any airport issues, count me in!

I hope so travelin' Jack... because I have you down as a boater. Got my fingers crossed.
Dan,
Do you still need boaters? I just found out that I don't have to be at the Palace until 4:30pm. I will provide a boat if still needed.
Yes - we need 4 or 5 more boaters. We have about 52 people to take out all together with kids, chaperones and sponsors who want to see the kids fishing and having a good time.
Be at Dodge #4 State Park ramp on Cass at 7:45 AM please - thanks!
We are fishing until 12:30 PM - the kids will be there around 8:15 AM. We will eat lunch at 1PM and then give away awards, prizes and do the raffle drawing.
Dan
i will bring my 22 foot Pontoon boat saturday instead of my Ranger...? my son is coming to help , we could take 2 kids to fish and others. it is a much better fishing platform.? ?i have a huge tub we have used to keep fish in before.

What time will the park open? State Parks usually open around 8:00am.
Thanks Steve!
I know the park is opening early for us, but I don't think it is much earlier than 7:30 give or take a few minutes.

I expect Anthony or someone will provide some basic information at the lake for where guys can take the kids to fish (the 'Guts' will probably be popular - where we launch at). See you all there.
The fishing part of the day couldn't have gone better. We had enough boats for everyone who wanted to go in one (a few kids wanted the ponton because they were nervous about being on the water).
Unfortunately for our great member here - stackenem - he was in a serious accident after leaving the event. His truck, and probably his boat, are totaled. Several of us talked to him and he is sore, but okay physically. Hopefully, that does not change.
Always hate to see this happen to anyone, especially after the rest of the day went so well.
stackenem - if you need anything we can do, please let us know.
I just wanted to thank dan and anthony for setting up this great outing for these kids. You guys worked very hard to make sure that every one had a great time. I tried to show my rider how much fun fishing can be even whenyou are not catching very much. I really enjoyed the smile on his face when he lifted that 4 inch bluegill out of the water and decided that he wanted to use that one for bait. The kid had a blast and so did I. Unfortunatlly I dint get to partake in the bar-b-que as I had an emergency at work I had to end to so I was out of there by 12:45. I heard the food was great though. I did end up with a Snickers bar and a bag of fritos out of the machine here at work. Once again great job guys and I am looking forward to next years event were I will have my phone turned off.
PS Bill I hope you are feeling better and if you want to go fishing let me know.
I was shook up by Bill's accident. Life and limb are much more important, but I sure feel bad for him losing the truck and boat for a while. Bill, I hope it all works out as well as possible in a tough situation like this.
I wanted to thank everyone that attended the Fish-N-Friends Crossroads for Youth fishing day on Cass. We had fantastic turnout of boaters and volunteers. The kids seemed to have a great time fishing and all the boaters did marvelous jobs on the water from what I heard and saw. Thanks so much. I will be tracking down the few volunteers who's contact information I did not get. (BTW, did anyone see my Shakespeare Medalist spinning reel? I left it on one of the tables under the tent (new in a package) and forgot to come back and get it after I got Mark and my boat on the trailers.)
Thanks are not enough, but for now please accept my gratitude (and Anthony's too, I'm sure) for the wonderfuls thing you all did Saturday. And please, be careful out there.
glad to hear event was a success and all had a good time by posted threads.
also bass wishes to bill (stackenem) for a speedy recovery as i also shocked over news of his accident. hoping to see you on the water soon.
i also want to commend all the people involved in the event. i attended with my 15 year old son. we took one of the kids and one of the chaperones. he had never been on a boat before or been fishing. they supplied all the tackle and rods. he picked up casting right away. we caught pan fish, a walleye, a pike and stopped on the way back in and caught 2 keeper bass. we used a 40 gallon tub for a livewell. they had fun watching them swim around in it. on the way in he drove the boat all the way back in to the bay. back at the park they had a weigh-in and took lots of photos of the kids with fish.. we had lunch and were out to there by 2:00 p.m. the weather was great just a little windy. my son asked on the way home if i knew when next years event will be.
best story of the day was one of the boys did not want to ride in a fast boat, espically the boat with the dog. he was on my pontoon boat when they needed someone to ride in the fast boat with the dog. he went along and had a great time. we followed them in and he was all smiles sitting there next to the big Lab.
thanks to Anthony, Dan, Jay and everyone else involved.
count on us for next year.

didn't hear about Bill till this morning. hope all is well.
This was my first one of these and I had a great time. The kids seemed to really love it. Count me in for next year! Bill, I'm so sorry to hear about the accident. If there's anything I can do...
I just got off the phone with Bill.
He said that although his truck is totaled for sure, and he's pretty sure the boat will be too, he is absolutely fine.
He has a bruise on his left elbow the size of a dime and that's it.
Great news!
Depending how how quickly the insurance companies do their thing, he could actually be back in business by the end of this week.
Thanks to all the guys and gals that help put this event together. Also to the sponsors for their support. It was another well organized event and I'm already looking forward to next years.
Keep up the GREAT work.
Mark
