had a couple free hours and decided to try some new jigs i just poured. Got to the lake about 9:00. Launch is tight and you park way back up on a hill. The lake is no wake until 11:00 so i just put the trolling motor down and headed along the shore. caught a nice keeper on the 2nd dock. Saw some nice smallie crusing but they would not bite. Got over by the golf course and caught some nicer keepers along the breakwall. Kind of fun watching the golfers while fishing. most of the shore is sand / gravel with some scattered pads. fish seemed to be under the pads or boat docks. caught 2 around 3 pounds on the east end where the deeper water comes up to shore. at 11:00 the jet skiis and power boats came out in force. since it is a small narrow lake it got rough fast. I fished another 1/2 hour and hit the road.
Fun lake to fish. My best 5 were 11.2 on my scale. All fish came on jigs with different craw trailers.
nice lake to take the family for a swim and spend some time.
I have never been on Middle Straits. Where is the boat launch located?? I have often thought of going there but never had because I was never sure where to launch. I knew there was a public access but never wanted to spend the time to look for it. From there, is there any access to Upper or Lower Straits??? ???
BD. ;D
take Haggerty road north until it ends. Turn right on Richardson road. go about 1/2 mile and go straight when the road goes right. The launch is at the down the hill at the end of the road. there is a nice park ( Bloomer Park ) next to the launch. The park and launch are West Bloomfield twp parks. Free to launch. Make sure you read the sign at the launch. No wake until 11:00 and after 7:00 or 7:30 not sure which.
no access to Upper or Lower straits unless you can jump roads. Lots of golf balls in the water along the course so take you mask and snorkel if you are a golfer.
My favorite lake. Usually fish it about 20 times a year, but not so much this year. Lake rules of 11 am no-wake apply to Sundays and holidays only. Site open 8AM untill 30 minutes of darkness. Closed nov. 1 until may 15th.
I'll be there around 4 pm tommorow, stop by and say hello. I'm in a Grumman.....
