Title: Boat Launch on the Looking Glass River?
Post by: HardcoreNinja69 on June 29, 2011, 11:05:50 AM
Is there a launch on the looking glass river? I don't need anything great. I wanna throw my 12 foot aluminium boat in. I hear its a good place to catch some smallies. Address or GPS coordinates would be best. Otherwise a rough description would work. Thanks in advance.

That's a good question. I used to wade part of it by parking and going in from a road end near Eagle. Been a long time since I tried. I heard partiers caused problems at that road end but haven't checked it out in a while. Where approximately are you wanting to fish?

Probably near DeWitt or bath since I'd be coming from Lansing. I heard about a couple places Babcock Landing and Riverfront Park. Both suppose to be in DeWitt but I can't come up with any addresses.

Call Don's Party Store on Round Lake he can tell you where to launch. And let us know how you did!

Riverside Park is in Dewitt on the east side of Bridge St between Main St to the north and Webb Dr to the south. Haven't been there in a long, long time so I don't know the details. Take Dewitt Rd north from I-69. Dewitt Rd turns into Bridge St in Dewitt. There may be another park in Dewitt - Rivertrail Park? and I'm not sure exactly where the canoe landing is in relation but it is in downtown Dewitt.

Not sure where Babcock's Landing is since I don't think I've ever gone there but it is a known canoe launch. I would check with Don's Party Store 517-651-6363 since Babcock Rd is coincidentally just west of Don's and crosses the Looking Glass River just south of Round Lake Rd.

Tim Machowicz, Unit Mgr for Sleepy Hollow State Park, might be involved in it somehow too as oversight or contact for the rivershed people (www.lookingglassriverfriends.org) who do cleanup at Babcocks 517-651-6217.

It is mentioned in the Sleepy Hollow pdf (http://www.michigandnr.com/Publications/PDFS/RecreationCamping/sleepy-hollow-slideshow.pdf).

Looks like Babcock Rd is the place - check out this map (http://www.lookingglassriverfriends.org/pdf/lgr_watershed.pdf) from the Friends of the Looking Glass River (also PDF) (http://www.lookingglassriverfriends.org/pdf/lgr_watershed.pdf).

Thanks for all your help. Once I make it out there I'll post the results.
