If any of you have a smaller boat (no motors above 6hp allowed here) and want some good largemouth action this summer, there's no better lake than Indy. Only 200 acres or so, but there's hardly any other boating activity out here. A nice park for the family if you're so inclined as well. This used to be my "home" lake, but since I moved out of the area I can only get up there on weekends now so might as well let the secret out a little.
Went on Saturday afternoon and nearly caught my limit (and released!) with a small pike that burst out of the water for a topwater to top the trip off. Good weeds and drops and the topwater bite is hard to beat. The launch is REALLY shallow, but with small boats it's not a big deal. Lake is pretty kid friendly too. Lots of large green sunfish and the occasional perch. Just a heads up!
Is it in Washtenaw County (http://www.ewashtenaw.org/government/departments/parks_recreation/activities/boat.html)? I bought a little boat a few years ago just for lakes like this and need to get it out more.
Yeah. Just southwest of Whitmore and Horseshoe lakes. US-23 to exit 50 then head west to the T junction. Hang a left and about a 1/4 mile up the road on the right there's a sign to the park. Couple miles of dirt road and you're there. $5 park fee for Washtenaw county residents and I think $8 for non-resident for the day.
