Title: MotorGuide parts
Post by: mikesmiph on June 13, 2011, 03:01:49 AM
Long story short. During the TBF Juniors, my trolling motor broke. The entire housing that holds the head on is snapped. Does anyone know where I can get parts quick? Supposed to be on Sag Bay on Thursday. Cant do it without a trolling motor. Or, if anyone has one for sale CHEAP. Let me know.

You should just scrap the Motor Guide and check into a Minn Kota.  Check Cabela's bargain cave and eBay.  I would sell you my extra one if I needed the money, but I don't.  You own a boat now Mike.  You have to have an extra trolling motor so you never run into the issue you're having now.  If my current one gives me issues, I just take that off and put my extra one on while I get it fixed.  My extra has been rebuilt so it's ready to go.  Good luck.  As I said, I would advise having 2.  I even got an extra fish finder if I have issues with that.  I don't get many days fishing since my son has been playing travel soccer.............so I don't want to miss any days on the water because of equipment issues.

Oh by the way, I think the closest Motor Guide Service Center is in New Baltimore.  I think you could get better info on that by going to Motor Guide's website.  If you owned a Minn Kota you could go to Wonderland although you may want to call them and see if they service Motor Guide or have parts for them.   Wonderland is a Minn Kota authorized dealer.  Again good luck and let us know how every thing turns out for you.  I hope you can find what you need.

Mike, I have one.  Call me and we'll figure out if it's the right one.  I need to get my rod from you anyways, and go out on the lake with you.  Anyhow, let me know what it is you need exactly, probably not something id charge you for.

Glad you got what you needed Mike.  I had been a motorguide man for years.  Then I got a Minn Kota and have been very pleased.  I had more issues with Motorguide when I owned one.  I am sticking with Minn Kota for now or until something better comes along for a good price.  As we all know, it only takes $$$.

Neither of the brands will work, if they are broke. Theres nothing wrong with the Motor Guide. It works fine. The housing broke. Would have broke on a Minn Kota too. I take my deals when and where I can get them.

I have both and here is what I have learned.  Wonderland can fix both, KD outdoors can fix minn Kota.
Motor Guide has a much better foot pedal, but the motor won't stay in place if you let go.
Minn Kota will stay in place, and goes through weeds like butter, but the pedal is horrible.

I'm waiting for the guy that can attatch my motor guide pedal to my minn kota motor.  that will be perfect.

Also Minn Kota's will not stand up to running directly into a concrete bridge at fast speeds.  I have not tested it with Motor Guides.  Mojo, however, will hold up to this, though he will get wet.
