Title: Shakey Head Jigs?
Post by: eetz on May 22, 2011, 08:08:07 PM
What shakey head jigs are you guys using?

I really like the technique, but haven't found a jig of preference.  I'm using 4-6" finesse worms usually, with a medium Fast action, or a Medium Light ExtraFast action rod.  (actually, i was using a 6" zipper worm on a 3/8oz jig head with a MHXF rod last week with success).

Just wanted to see what everyone's preference was.

I like the Strike King shakey head jigs.  The have a 4/0 hook w/ a 60 degree flat eye.  I normally use an 1/8 oz.

2nd vote for the Strike King Shakey football jig.  Plenty strong and sharp out of the package.  I use both 1/8 and 3/16 sizes.

Heck if I can remember the brand... they sell them at Al and Bob's.  But I've gone MAGNUM this year!!  I've been fishing 3/8ths and even a half oz shakey head with bigger worms (won't mention which ones, I'm not gonna give up all my secrets!!) and been doing very well on it.

Its strictly a finesse tactic to me when the bite gets real tough so I never go heavier than 1/8th oz and only go that heavy when its windy or deep water. Most of the time Im throwing a 1/16th or 3/32 ballhead 60 degree flateye screw lock with a 4/0. Brand dont matter as long as its got a gammy. I usually just buy from guys who pour there own on BBC or GLB. Got some comming from Nemesis to give a try this year.

I use the smaller sizes.  1/16-1/4 oz. I like the Nemesis ones.
