Got out to St. Clair this morning and was greeted with rain...........and it rained for about 3 hours. I waited until it stopped about 0930 to launch when it stopped. My first stop was 11 mile and the blue wall. Water temp was 49 and the wind was pretty steady out of the Southeast at 10 t0 15 mph. I started my first drift out in about 14 feet of water. Clarity was about a foot. It was muddier than up in Anchor Bay yesterday. After a couple of drifts and not a bite I went to Ford's Cove. At Ford's Cove, water clarity was nil and water temp in the cove was about 52. I caught 4 largemouths in the cove. One on a worm, two on a S.W.A.G. football head jig with an Extreme Bass Tackle creature bait trailer. I added rattles so they could find it better. The 4th was on a chartreuse Nichols Pulsator Spinnerbait with chartreuse willow blades. I went back out on the point and drifted in front of the 9 mile tower while the wind picked up and the waves built from 1 to 3 feet. I made two drifts there and lost two smallies dragging tubes. One jumped and threw the bait. The other came off at the boat and was in the 4lb range. The water was muddy. Visibility at about 6 inches to a foot. Threw some cranks and jerks but no takers. Went back to 11 mile and the wind was picking up and the waves were building from 2 to 4 feet. I started a drift but when waves were coming over the stern of the boat I decided to call it a day. On my way back to the launch waves built to 5 feet and I speared one coming back. Thank goodness for a good bilge pump as it did a great job in getting the water out very quickly. Worse case was my feet were wet as I had about 4 inches of water in the boat.
BD ;D
Good times! I can't wait to get over there in 2 weeks.
Hopefully by then the wind and rain will subside and the water will clear up.
BD. ;D
My neighbor and I caught 15 SM on Sat the 3oth. Fished the mile rds 8 feet deep using Redeye shads in various shad colors. Water temp was 49 and about 3 feet of visibility, a lot better than expected. All nice keepers a couple approaching 4lbs. Couldnt get bit on a tube.
Lets get that wave spearing wind stuff out of the way please by the 14th!
No doubt! The fish are there but with this wind and rain, the water is really dirty. I was dodging trees, logs, boards, and other various crap all day. The only clear water I was finding was way up in Anchor Bay, but the fish just weren't there.
Things have definitely improved in a hurry up there from the fishing reports I'm hearing now!
Oh yeah. For certain. I was out the other day and the water was clear to about 7 ft deep and the fish were cooperating. I didn't have anything like Tim and Jeff's luck, but things are improving.
