Well, I tried to go fishing this morning. I almost made it to the lake. As a matter of fact, I was less than 5 miles from the lake. Now, I'm here, and here's what happened.
I left at 6:30, and was heading to the lake. Up ahead, I see a fire truck approaching the intersection I am coming to. His lights are on, and he's on a mission. I pull off to the right side of the road and stop. He passes and I see another one coming. I stay still, and look in my rear view to see a red Blazer in my lane, not slowing down. I can't go anywhere. I'm watching, and I let off my brake just as she plowed in to the back of my boat, going every bit of 50 miles per hour.
The boat is pushed up on the trailer almost 2 feet. The front rest is broken loose, the motor toter is broke. My prop is trashed, and prop shaft is bent. My trim pumps are broken. The pivot plate for the motor is broken, and the motor is lodged between the trailer and transom. The lower unit is sitting on the bottom roller of the trailer. Oh, what luck I have. It also appears that the frame of my truck is bent in the back. Looks like the bumper is rolled down a little bit.
I hope you guys have a better opening day than I did.
I guess I'm not the only one with bad luck. My daughter wanted to go rollerskating first and then to white lake. She tripped over someones skate and sliced her head. Now we're sitting at urgent care waiting for stitches
Very sorry to hear about this. I wish the other drivers would just slow down a little. We could all be so much more safe if some people were less selfish in their pseudo-hurries.
Hope your daughter is okay. I also hope most of you have a better opening day.
Im glad to hear your ok Mike. I have spent most of the day in the fire truck.. we just got off our 6th run of the day. The first started at 0700 this morning ... grrr

I hope the little one is ok. That sucks when things like that happen to your kids.
I have been out in the garage all day examining the boat. Man, I feel like I have lost my best friend. I can't wait to deal with the insurance company. That will be a real joy.
I bet she was on her cell phone and blamed it all on you. If people would pay attention these things would not happen. Good luck getting the boat fixed.
Yep, probably trying to text while driving. I was doing one of my internships about a month ago with the Memphis P.D. and a guy ran a red light and almost slammed right into the patrol car. Pretty bad when you almost hit a cop car. Turned out not only was he trying to text, but we also gave him a ride to the county hotel for an OWI.
Good luck with the insurance company Mike
Texting and drunk!!!!!!!!! God was watching over him that day.
mike sorry for the bad luck - if you have a chance after work let me know and we'll go hit wolf lake or muskegon or something. its the wrong time of the year to be boatless.
Dang Mike, so sorry to hear about your boat. You must have come away uninjured. Glad to see that. Now for the important question.... Did that new 1198 make it out ok? lolol
Hey LaPorte, It hasn't been bad for me here at the station. Just one run so far. It was a code and I think we made a save. Pt was heading to surgery when we left hospital. :)
Believe it or not, there was no phone involved. She was a young mother, and had her infant son with her. She told me that he was crying and she was looking back at him when she hit me. She was pretty shook up. I was so mad, but when I saw her grab her son, I felt really bad. I just kept thinking that I would really hate it if that were my wife and kids, and somebody was raging on her for an accident. It was a dumb mistake, but I'm not perfect either. I am really glad that nobody was hurt, especially her little guy. The boat can be fixed or replaced, so no biggie I guess.
As for the 1197, it rides in the cab of my truck, in a Plano box that is made for 4 pistols. I will not leave that thing on the boat, unless I'm on the water. Too pricey. Don't want to chance a stupid accident with that.
The guy that I have do work on all of my boats, if I can't, just came and looked the boat over. He said he is amazed at how well the boat took the hit. He found no cracks inside or outside on the boat. He crawled around it for 2 hours or better. I need a new prop, trim pumps, steering cables, the pivot bracket for the motor, lower unit has to be fixed/replaced, and the trailer is junk.
Now, just to add insult to injury, my work car won't start today, and my wife's van needs a throttle position sensor so that it quits idling at 2000 rpm's. I wish I could shake this black cloud that is following me lately.

I can go almost any day after work. Let me know if you want to go. That would be awesome. I'm bummed that my rig will be down for a while.
Hang in there Mike. Sending black cloud extinguishing thoughts your way. Might work. I hope.
Shes fine. Four stitches and not one tear then she says do we still have time to fish. Hope your boat gets done soon
She's still a cutie, even with a stitched up forehead. :)
This is a great website and it's people like all of you that make it so. The thoughtful gestures, the reassuring and the kind words make what ever life throws you just a little bit more easier to handle...... Peace to all of you.
Hopefully the rest of the year goes better for both of you guys....Thank God no one in either incident was severely injured....
I guy I know broke his neck last week playing with the kids in the backyard...Freak thing...They are not sure what his status is going to be as far as walking again...Makes you count your blessings that is for sure...
Mike, thanks for ditching me for dinner last week. I don't need any of this to rub off on me.
Dan, please don't make me fish with Mike at the open.
Thank The Lord no one was seriously injured. Thank The Lord no one died. Just Thank The Lord!!!! Mike, the boat can be fixed. I am glad you made it through. It's just another speed bump in life. As for the little one, she is going to have a cute little scar to go with that cute face. I remember when my daughter was that age............... ;).
