Well, I am thinking about trying to do a little more ice fishing this year..I really haven't done much in alot of years..I bought a few things last year and am thinking about buying a Power auger this year..Any reccomendations??? I know it is early, but I guess I may as well give in and start planning for the winter..I think it is going to be a cold snowy one..
Thanks,,

Do you own a cordless drill? I bought a adapter for my auger that fits in my drill . Works good , just take a couple of batteries , its quiet and portable , fits in my clam .

How big a drill? How big an auger do you use? How many holes through good ice can you get?

Where did you get the adapter, I have a Nils 6"? I have heard you can get 20-40 holes depending on the drill, but it better be at least an 18V 1/2". I've mainly heard of people using them with Lazers.

I have a Ryobi 18 volt 1/2inch cordless and drill 8 inch holes . I bought my auger and my adapter at Gander Mountain . I can drill 15 to 20 per battery in 12 inches of ice , but with a 6inch you can drill more . It helps to keep the battery warm .

I may have to give the cordless route a try...I have an 18V drill, but I can't remember if it is 1/2 inch or 3/8..

Hey, this is a pretty good tip - thanks! I might go ice fishing again this year although between the shows and my trip to Mexico, maybe not (since I usually repair my marriage in the winter ;D )

I usually spend the winter repairing my marriage too.  I got a bit of an edge here because my bride wants to go ice fishing.  So we leave the kids at home and we take the clam and the equipment along with my power auger and go to a few inland lakes in the area.  I am lucky because the lovely bride and love of my life used to fish a lot with her Dad when she was growing up.  So I may not have to repair as much as most men would.  She has gotten used to me being away from April to November fishing.  My best excuse is taking the kids.  That is the ultimate passport to fishing.
