Title: Duck Lake ?
Post by: fear no fish on June 27, 2007, 07:59:42 AM
I was wondering if anyone on this forum knows anything about Duck Lake in Clarence MI. It is a little South East of Charlotte. I spoke with a man who has property on the lake and he said it had a lot of red ears in it and also had smallies. Has anyone ever fished this lake? Is there a public access? Maybe some clues as to where to start looking for fish? I just want to take a buddy fishing on a new lake and don't want to totally bomb on a lake I know nothing about. Thanks in advance for any help.

I've got a tourney there tonight.  I'll let you know.  Never fished it before.

If this is the Duck Lake in Calhoun County then I have bass fished it at least 6 or 8 times and ice fished it twice.  There is a good public launch on it and there is parking for quite a few boats.  As far as the fishing, its not my favorite lake-it earned the nickname "No Luck Duck" after one particularly slow day, but I have had moderate success especially fishing the edge of the big flat at the North end (straight out from the launch) and the docks along the Eastern shore.  The point on the southern end can be hold some if the weed edge is built up, but that seems to be hit or miss.  Personally, I have only ever caught a handful of smallmouths and they were all dinks.  Largemouths are definetly the ticket from my experience.  I have stumbled into a few really nice red ear sunfish, but those were caught while bass fishing.

Good Luck and I hope it doesn't live up to its nickname!
