Had the day off and was going to Port Huron to fish where the winner of the Elite fished. Wind report was not good so I headed to Wolverine Lake near Walled Lake. Great lake with no wake until 11:00. Fished docks and pontoon boats for the first 4 hours and had great action. Caught a 3.14 on a wacky rig Dinger. Went to the west end of the lake and started casting a swim jig. The fish were sitting under the pads shading them selves. Caught a bunch of 2-3 pound fish. You could almost call the shot with a group of pads with darker water around it. The pike were in there also so I donated a few jigs to them. Amazing they can cut 20 lb Floro leader with no problem.
That lake has a real weed problem. The Cara is so think in places it is almost to the surface in 3 feet of water. They have a spray station at the launch to spray your boat before you launch.
I always have a good time on wolverine. Never tried the swim jigs on the west end. Seems too weedy? I generally use frogs over there. What plastic were you tossing on your swim jig?
My own home made jig with a Chigger Craw trailer. That is all I use for swim jigging. Land it on the pad slip it off and start reeling. They inhaled it. Caught some in open water around the pads also. Got a frog rod but never use it. Going to have to get it out some day.
A pike took my hollow-body there last year. I had to go and buy 3 more later...
Nice job on the largies!! What was your water temp down there?
Water was still warm 74 degrees. The bass should be feeding more now that it is cooling off. Be dropshotting on Cass all day today. No jigs allowed.
