It's looks like I will be able to make it as a boater. Sign me up!! ;D
DD
any westsiders besides me making the commute? lol.
I thought Genie was going to fish...?? But after an exhaustive search of the sign up thread... I find no such note?!?
Maybe you could talk him into it?!? He can even fish right by me (if he thinks that's really a good idea)?!?

Ok - if I talk 2 more vacillating boaters into it, you won't need to make the long trip with the boat, but I'll put you down for now.
That puts us even at the moment. I will send out email tonight to ask everyone to confirm with me again just to be sure.
I still have one or 2 boaters thinking about it for the one or two of you with possible boat availability issues.
I am confirmed unless the weather gets crazy Saturday...
I couldn't find anything on this site, but here is something to be aware of for this weekend......
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Lake St. Clair Fisheries Research Station will be conducting a fisheries survey in Anchor Bay, Lake St. Clair, from Thursday, May 7, to Friday, May 22, 2009. The primary purpose of the survey is to assess the status of predator fish populations in the lake. The survey gear used will be trap nets, located along a 10-foot contour, between the Clinton River and New Baltimore. Each of the five nets will be marked with at least two floating flags and nine smaller bouys. The nets are approximately 650 feet long. Boaters and anglers are encouraged to watch out for these markers and to avoid boating or fishing near them. Anglers who catch tagged fish, are encouraged to report the catch to the MDNR. Anglers can call the Lake St. Clair Fisheries Research Station (586-465-4771) to report catching tagged fish or if they have additional questions regarding the net survey. Anglers can also report catching a tagged fish on the internet at http://www.michigandnr.com/taggedfish/.
The map below shows the approximate locations of the survey trap nets
The approximate lat/long coordinates are
42 38.558 82 45.866
42 38.070 82 45.873
42 37.873 82 46.518

I'll just follow you.....I am just going to scoop some out of the nets anyway...As long as I immediately release all should be good. ;D
Those nets are out there every year this time in the same places. I actually went out with them last year and observed them pulling the nets, measuring and recording the various fish. It was very interesting and fun. The trap nets are fairly small and well marked, out quite a ways from shore.
Dan,
Do you happen to have a Golden Rule that I can purchase? I'm trying to avoid a run all the way up to BPS and getting one from Anthony Adams if I can...
Thanks,
Scott
I'm trying to talk Anthony into fishing... and bringing some of the boards with him.
Thank you sir, I spoke to him last week and he told me to chk w/ you first since I'm over an hour away from there. If I'm driving an hour plus I'm gonna spend some $$$ then have the misses mad when I get back... not good.
I have a golden rule that I am bringing with me if my boater has one then mine is free for someone to use.
I don't see why we can't just measure the fish and use the conversion chart. What is the diff.
Didn't our recording/weigh-in slips have the conversions on them. I mean I think we were just measuring and releasing and then added the top 5 in the end because of weather.
Know what I mean Gene.
who needs the conversion? can't we just use the total length for 5 longest fish?
The bass Golden Rule is broken down in smaller increments.....i don't know why you couldn't mark up your own board in 1/4 inch increments though
I think it is 1/8th inch increments...? Every 1/8th is 2 ounces.
I'll have to look tonight.
yes your right Dan, 1/8th increments unlike other boards.
as long as everyone measures in 1/8 increments, then i don't see the problem.
unless you have a cheater board!!!! :D I would think that if we are short on golden rules, just do a quick comparison at the ramp to make sure the measurements are equal on the boaters board and call it good.
Lets be honest... if someone wanted to cheat for 5$.. they just write down a different weight. i have no fears of that happening with this group of course.
If we are going to have a tournament of inches, you had better hope that UAW Big Dog doesn't show up! ;D
None of us will even have a chance. :o
Dan:
I will be unable to fish on Saturday. PLease take me off the boater list.
Sorry for the last minute withdraw, but everyone knows how things go sometimes.
Good luck out there, I hope the weather holds for ya'll.

That may have been more information than I needed.. ;D..... You guys share a lockerroom at some point??? ;D (I hope that is all it is)
Lost yukonjack2. I'm working on 3 other possible boaters. They're holding out so far, but this is Lake St. Clair...
Still working on a couple boaters who are playing hard to get. Sorry about delays in a draw or email reminders. We had another death in the family Tuesday but the DK Open will go on. The funeral is tomorrow morning so I can spend time with the family and still host the event.
As always, I appreciate your patience and participation.
I will do a draw tonight. I've heard back from some of you already. I'll check with a few I haven't heard from in a while tonight. The draw can be adjusted between tonight and Saturday morning if necessary.
Sorry to hear about your loss....
I wouldn't sweat the draw...It is all for fun, Even if you announce the pairings in the morning when we know who is going to show up or not it will all be good.....
The weather may play some role, especially if the wind blows like it is right now...
If you want to email me what you know late tonight or tommorrow morning I can put something together and get it posted by noon or so tommorrow....I know some guys want to ride together and there are some scheduling deals...So if you can update me I will see what I can hook up...I'll let my 6 year old pull names...LOL
Straight from the DK Open rules page:
Rule 13.1.2
Any person related to any forum member or affiliation with any boater or non boater shall be prohibited from participating in drawing tournament partners.
Everyone knows 6 year olds are prone to bribes from family members.
B
I have to work that day now so I will not be able to attend as first thought.
Sorry to hear that. I'll do the update.
My condolences, Dan...
I've gotta believe I'm not the only one wondering about the "possibly severe" thunderstorms w/ the wind SSW @ 20-30mph tomorrow while we are sitting at the ramp, any thoughts or plans?!
Scott
if its that bad fish the river or canals (probably where i'll be) its a ssw to w which won't be terrible for us near shore anglers
SATURDAY
SOUTH WINDS 15 TO 20 KNOTS...WITH GUSTS TO 25
KNOTS...TURNING TO WEST. CLOUDY THROUGH MID MORNING...THEN CLEARING.
A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS DURING THE MORNING. WAVES 2 TO
3 FEET. SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY MAY BE REQUIRED.
hopefully it stays to the west
Dan,
I hate to do this but work just called me this morning and they want me to work Saturday...So I have to back out...I was packing the boat when they called.. :(
I have not worked even an hour of OT this year so it is tough to turn down..
Good luck to you guys, hopefully the winds lay down for Saturday morning..I have not been on Anchor Bay but I have seen alot of reports of guys catching them there. If the winds get to bad you can always stay in there and be relatively safe...
OK OK OK - I will be there with my BOAT and I will bring a couple Bump Boards to sell.
Dan call me I have a few questions.
Add one more to the "hate to do this" list. I can't make it either. Sorry Dan.
WTH! :o
Well, I'll be there in the morning. It is tomorrow, right? ;D

Probably no one will see this now. Got done with the family late and then ran into some technical difficulties outside.
The weathermen haven't been doing too hot this year so we'll just show up there and see what we see. Those who come will have as much fun as the day allows.
see you there dan. just got done rigging up. gonna try and grab a few zzzz
I'm gettin' ready and will be out the door shortly!
Too nasty here last night to rig so I get that pleasure at the ramp...

I have seen all the pictures. Thanks anyway. I am sorry I didn't get back to you DK, but my son broke his arm yesterday playing soccer for WazaFC which is his club. I was at hospital emergency until about midnight. He broke his left forearm both the radius and ulna. It was a clean break and should be fully healed in about 4 to 6 weeks with him returning to the field in 8 to 10 weeks. He is an outstanding player at eight years old that has great potential in going all the way if he sticks with it. I think he will because he is as passionate about soccer as I am about bassfishing.
