Title: Half Moon on Monday
Post by: fiker on May 18, 2006, 05:08:24 PM
Headed for Half Moon when the sun was shining.  Got there and it was raining.  I stood there looking at the lake and the drowned boat ramp when a Skeeter with two guys came tooling by.  I asked them if it was worth launching in the rain.  They said that it was but only if I wanted to catch large fish. (Now I've never been one to discrimminate against larger fish). So I said that I didnt' mind that, and asked them what kind of pattern they were seeing.  They told me fast.  Topwater, spinnerbaits, and plugs but move fast. I asked em if they were telling me fisherman lies, and the one guy just smiled and said no.
So I launched, and headed across the lake.  I tied on a rattle trap that was a 1/2 oz.  I started to cast as far as I could and burned it back to the boat.  After about 10 minutes a 3#er smacked into it, and after a nice tussel, I boated a 17 incher.  I continued to burn and crank across the flat, but no more hits.
I motored over the the other side of the lake, and tried the same thing.  No takers.
I switched to a Strick 9 Shiner w/ a 3/0 hook, Texas rigged weightless.
I'd walk the dog with it, and then let it pause.  On the pause, they'd smack into it.
Over the next 200 yards of shoreline, I boated 3 more keepers, and I don't know how many little ones.
It's not very often that I limit out with five, but that night I came close.  I had the 17, two 15's and a 14.  One more went 13.5.  Close but no cigar.
What was really cool to me though, was that I've now started to think like a fisherman.
And on that night, it payed off.  Way cool.
I didn't bring my sunglasses though, and kicked myself later as the sun finally came out.
I did not see any bedding bass, (maybe cause of the glasses).  Most of the fish came shallow (3 ft or less) and when they hit, they hit hard.  Only one was hooked on the side of the mouth, everybody else tried to eat the bait.
Sure was fun feeling that line stretch.  Then the head shakes.  Then seeing the flared red gills under the water.
Man I like fishin.

I'm still planning of fishing the Tuesday nights.
Sorry.
But the truth is, if you get a map of the chains, you'll now where to go.
It usually fishes pretty text book.

No way Josh, I'll be watching you on TV some day.

"And Joshimiotoson makes the cut to fish on Sunday".

I have a 16' Tracker so when you see me on the water you'll know who to say hi to.

Fishstk I would have recognized you but I couldn't see your bassmamster.com stiker on your boat.   :)  But you've got a real nice looking boat anyway.

I see you are from Chelsea, and since I didn't see your trailer in the lot makes me wonder if you live on the chain?

I'm from Dexter.  Maybe we can hook up sometime.
