Title: Lakes in Frankfort area
Post by: uptonfish on July 11, 2009, 03:27:40 PM
Hey guys I will be vacationing in the Frankfort area (live in Missouri)in late July early August and I am looking for some good bass lakes in the Frankfort area.  I will have a bass boat and a canoe available to fish out of.  Any help is appreciated for this Missouri fisherman.
thanks

You'll be fishing in Michigan's Great Northwest Corner. Smallmouth heaven. Lots of lakes in the area. Just  north of Frankfort is Crystal and Platte Lake. You are close to Bear Lake, Portage Lake, and the lakes around Interlochen. All top notch smallmouth lakes. Crystal clear water. Long casts on flourocarbon. Traditional smallie baits. Check out my teardropbass.com website for a bunch of lake articles from that area.

Upper and Lower Herring Lakes can produce good fish most times of the year.  The ramp at Upper is a little shallow but I've been able to launch my 18 Triton every time without issue.

Thanks for info.  What are traditional smallie baits up there,  I fish for them a bit down here is Missouri but they are mostly found in small rivers and streams here. I use small tubes (2.75in) and 4 in senkos to catch them here in the small rivers.

I was up in that area last year but didn't have any way to get out on the water although I caught a few smallies in Betsie bay right in Frankfort.
