same frogs as last year, no buzz/spinner frogs, no spook frogs, no crankbaits with frog patterns. please use frogs like the ones posted above, any brand is fine.
lodging options will be posted soon, tho most folks just come for the day i will have a campsite or cabin someplace close by so we can unwind after a day of frogging
Thanks for putting this on Bob. Im in as a boater. Ill be fishing with my wife...
I want to get in on this!
I'm in as non-boater again. Will have rain gear this year >.<

Dartag,
Maybe you and I could do a Spook event on Kent in Oct. best 3 fish or something..... let me know I have a scale shoot me a PM
I like that idea. Kent is a great jig lake. Maybe 3hours each.
In as boater. Is the lake set In stone? Sanford and wixom are two frog winning lakes and a little closer ;D
The weather forcast is supposed to be 28 degrees, torential downpour, and 40 mph winds... lol, its the frogs only curse. For those of you that haven't been, it's soft frog lures only. No strange frogs that you buy just to get around the rule. If you're unsure, I'll bring the 20 obscure frogs I bought last year that were ruled out. I'm in as a boater. Ill either be with Mike Ray or Brandon depending on who is available. Ill be staying the night before and after at my cabin in Hale, about a 20 minute drive. Ill have at least 5 extra beds open if anyone else cares to join us. This really is a great tournament, I just wish we would get some frogs only weather to go along with it. Oh, Mojo is in too, even though I haven't verified that. If needed he can use my other boat.
Frank
Veronica and I are in, and maybe my eldest daughter too. She lives in Oscoda.

Third time's the charm, or so i'm told. No Rain, No Rain, No Rain. by the looks of it, the location seems to be just right. i haven't been there in years, and i can't wait to get back to the ponds. maybe on sunday we can do a buzzbait and jig only thing
I'm in my friends. I'm in.

Maybe we should repeat the Hawg Hunt lineup and put me and Mojo in the boat with bob o. Only good things will happen in THAT setup.
Edit: looks like there might be 3 to a boat unless we can get another boat owner to make the trip. The only boat that really needs to worry is the one with Mojo on it anyway...
that works for me
Then we can circle the cabin with RAM trucks if Don drives his up like a chuck wagon.
I would like to join as a non- boat owner if at all possible.
Bump for another boater.
Looking forward to lighting a campfire in Don's front yard.
Here boater boater, Here boater boater I know your out there...
Pairings to date:
Bob o and Ypsibass

Gentlely speaking - GLB members you disappoint me. This is an all out hawg hunt fun time .. Beer .... food ..... What do y'all need ? Some Tilted Kilt girls on shore ?
I would go but I have a family reunion this Saturday. Frogs are my favorite way to fish.

That's what's important - getting everyone out fishing who can make it! Good work anglers! I will be thinking of you from 2:30pm when I start my drive to Ann Arbor and The Big House right up until 8pm GAMETIME!!
Then, I will probably only be thinking about The Team The Team The Team beating those figthing irash!! (A random frog bite or two will probably slip in while I eat my peanut butter sammich in the student corner of the endzone during halftime.)
Have fun!! Hope you all get several extra big frog splooshes for me!! Watch out for those pike!
Bigbassbilly called me and said he can't make it after all so pairings are correct as of mojo's post.
Why is the Frogs Only cursed with rain??
Drove up late friday morning and ended up at Old Orchard Campground with bob o. Laporte had to cancel so before the trip he was kind enough to send me up with the prizes for winning. A big thanks to Case Plastics (http://www.caseplastics.com) for the donation of a Powell Diesel casting rod (http://www.powellco.com/Powell-Diesel-Series/Diesel-Casting-Rods/Diesel-705-CB-Glass) and some samples of their lures. Friday afternoon fished Cooke Dam Pond and caught a couple. Saw a decent sized pike eat a leg off my rage frog, but he didn't come back for seconds unfortunately. Managed to find a spotty frog bite in a little bay somewhere on Cooke before we called it a night. Bob got the campfire lit then had a couple Two Hearted ales then it was lights out for the evening.
The big event turned into a much smaller event with just Frank, Bob, Mojo and I fishing around Foote Dam Pond trying to find a frog bite and failing miserably. I'm going to blame the rain again this year as it started sprinkling as soon as we got both boats on the water. The for the next 5 hours or so the weather alternated between light sprinkles, pouring rain, and brief glimpses of sunlight. This is progress! First year frogs only there was lightning and much rain. Second year just non-stop rain. Third year we managed to see the sun for a few seconds. Frogs Only 2014 is going to be the year I think. I don't think any of us caught anything on a frog. Frank and Mojo had luck with spinnerbaits around the dam. Bob and I managed a couple keepers on drop shot and a couple dinks on a crawfish lure of some sort. Biggest between the two boats was 15" or so and was deemed the "winner". We ended up splitting up the plastics between us and I took the rod home.
All in all, a great trip with great company. Big thanks again to Case Plastics and a special thanks to Bob O for putting everything together, including the assembly of a comfortable campsite. Looking forward to next year, but probably on a different lake.
Thanks Rick for the great overview, i really couldn't say any more about the trip except for the all you can eat coneys for $5 at the Hilltop bar & grill they were good but not great. I really was disappointed in the rain, so much so we left camp on saturday, yea i was wet and peeed. in hind site we should have stuck it out and fished on sunday, oh well next year at tomahawk lake, hint, hint. for an all out whatever you want to cast camping thing. see ya next week at cass lake for the drop shot only thing.
It does sound like 2014 will finally be the year of a sunny, massive frog bite event. Just have to have it on a lake with lots of top cover too to be ensured of the biggest frog event yet!
It does sound like you had fun despite some adversity and that's what is most important.
If you're talking about Tomahawk Creek Flooding, it has had a lot of keep-sized bass in recent years but not a lot of frog-type cover unless something changed just in the past year or two? Fun lake to fish if you like fishing trees and wood. I realize there are several Tomahawk lakes but that is the only one I have successfully launched on.
I tried launching my boat with my truck a few years ago on one of the smaller Tomahawk Lakes up there and got stuck good on the ramp, and then, I got STUCK on the sandy road leading out too!! Thank goodness they redid the campground ramp on Tomahawk Creek Flooding. I can launch there easy without getting wet.
yes, Tomahawk Creek Flooding, not a frog thing just a fishing trip. i've had it on my fishing bucket list for some time now. and 2014 sounds like the year to go.
we need to do an outing to Sanford lake. Check out the Top Bass Championship results. That is a fish alone series. 18 fish over 5 pounds and 3 over 6 for 2 days of fishing.
I'll second this. If we're not doing wixom next year on BBC, sanford seems like just the ticket. I think someone on this board might even be on that lake a lot...
Wow! I didn't know Sanford was on that good!?!
I enjoy fishing Tomahawk Creek Flooding but it is hard to catch a bass over 2 1/2 pounds past the best of the spawn into early fall. Sometimes the numbers make up for it but I have never gone there and caught 50+ in a few hours fishing. If you like fishing wood, there's no shortage of that. There's a lot of wood I've never caught a bass off of too though.
Sanford is a killer lake for huge bass. It seems to be getting better and better over the past 3 years or so. There is some good top cover in the lake too but depends when and how much weed treatment they spray
hey guys. didn't jump in this year cause when i saw the date for this, our club was set having a 2day tournie last weekend. which i had planned on fishing, but due to a unexpected medical issue from labor day weekend didn't fish at all.
but if i can put my 2cents in for next year, i thought last year ovid we mentioned having this back down this way to try & i see already going north again. i like this event & usually allow/make a 1day travel event for me. by what i see, 3 of us locally here i know of in canton, livonia, ypsilanti & i'm betting u might get a couple more takers if we try this. so i'm putting half moon chain or portage chain in the hat.
and sorry to hear on rain, again.. >:(
im gonna back out i think. its hard to justify 7 hours driving to fish for 6
I would think Portage Chain near Pinckney could be a really good choice for a fall frog tournament. Many years ago, I used to go there just to frog fish all day.
Don't know how it is now, but I had to cover some water to get from one good frog area to another but it was usually fairly to very productive.
I'll second Portage Chain in Pinckney for next year. Lots of frog water throughout most of the lakes in this chain. The Huron River also has plentiful frog water on it. If its helds anywhere in southeastern Michigan next year, count me in.
I really need to work on my frog skills. We had a pretty frustrating day on the kayaks a few weeks back, multiple blow ups and not a single fish landed. Depending where this event ends up I would like to fish it
