Title: Lowrance HD system
Post by: Lightningboy on June 05, 2009, 10:52:34 PM
OK, call me nuts, but I'm about to take the plunge.  Complete new HD system front & back.  Gotta stimulate the economy, right?   ;D

I'm looking at a HD10 on the dash, and a HD7 on the bow.  Both networked to share waypoints.  I've got a couple of questions:

All what do I need to make this system work easily for me?  Not every nut & connector, but any specialty items that make a system like this work well.  I plan to add the side imaging as soon as it's available after ICAST.

Who/where can I get a good price on a complete system, with support if I need it?

It'd be great if a local Lowrance tech wanted to drop their 2 cents here; I want to make sure I do this right.

I'm gonna have big screen side imaging.  It's getting hard to sleep already...

I, like you am interested in this setup as well. I have searched all over the internet and can find no info on the lowrance side imaging, no screenshots or discussion of pricing. I know they keep saying it will be released at ICAST in July, but I can't believe no one has leaked anything yet. I'm a little skeptical about it and am holding off my purchase until it's released(just in case) and also want to see if it will affect the price of the Humminbird.

There is a video of it floating around the internet somewhere, I think I saw it on BBC. it looks almost the same as Humminbird's.

Hey Ken,

No guarentees, but try emailing my buddy Lance Valentine, u can reach him at his website:  www.walley101.com    Not only does he give the best lowrance seminars, bar none, he is a lowrance GURU and I am sure he has the scoop on HDS and side imaging coming this fall

bigjc-I remember you telling me about that guy before with his seminars; that's just the kind of expert advice I'm looking for.  Since I'm doing it all at once, I want to make sure I get it right the first time.

I'm gonna try to use this as a chance to get better with my electronics.  I can use my sonar/gps, but not anywhere near their full potential.  Considering I've been in Radiology for 25 years, you would think I'd be a natural.   :D

I've seen some of the Lowrance side images.  Looks just like HB, but different background color.  Nothing against HB, but I like the Lowrance sonar screens better.  I also like the lowrancenet system; I plan on adding some of the options like a fuel flow meter & trim tab position indicator.

It's gonna be very interesting to look at some of the spots I think I know well on familiar waters.  I bet I'm gonna be suprised more than a few times in what stuff really looks like.

I have an HDS-10 on a RAM mount, and I went with (2) 520c's,one on the bow,and the other in the dash. All 3 of these units are interlinked through NMEA connections.I wouldn't even begin to know how the boys at Knox Marine hooked it all up,but it works awesome with all the units sharing the same info.
