Over 297,000 Michigan voter signed petition to base wildlife decisions on sound science.
LANSING (August 13, 2014)—The Michigan Senate passed the Scientific Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act on August 13, a citizen initiative brought to the Legislature by the signatures of almost 300,000 registered Michigan voters led by the Citizens for Professional Wildlife Management, a coalition of conservation, hunting, fishing and trapping organizations.

Four options to go to the public through meetings and surveys
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) is preparing public meeting schedules and locations for comment on proposed changes to the Michigan bass season. Michigan B.A.S.S. Nation (MBN) submitted a Michigan Bass Season Change Proposal (PDF) to the MDNR Warmwater Resources Steering Committee (WRSC), a Fisheries Division citizens' advisory group, on June 17, 2013 to start this latest effort to provide more bass fishing opportunity in Michigan.

Michigan United Conservation Clubs delegates vote Michigan B.A.S.S. Nation bass season resolution as organization policy
Sunday, June 22, 2014 the Michigan United Conservation Clubs (MUCC) state convention delegates voted greater than the needed two-thirds majority to adopt the Michigan B.A.S.S. Nation (MBN) bass season proposal resolution into official policy. The only change from the original resolution submitted through District 20 was a minor friendly amendment suggested by MUCC Past-President Paul Rose to the adaptive management section.

Governor Snyder signs SB 869 into law, existing bass season Fisheries Order still in effect
The bass season bill Senate Bill 869 was signed by Governor Rick Snyder at 11:06 AM on Tuesday 6/3/2014. SB 869 was filed with the Michigan Secretary of State the same day and assigned Public Act 145 of 2014 with immediate effect. This removes the previous earliest bass season starting dates from Michigan state law.

The House Natural Resources Committee voted unanimously 9-0 to pass Senate Bill 869 out of committee with a favorable recommendation at today's hearing. After Committee Chair Representative Andrea LaFontaine opened the hearing, the primary sponsor of SB 869, Michigan Senator Geoff Hansen spoke in support of his bill saying creating a longer bass season will be good for Michigan and benefit our natural resources economy even more by attracting more bass tournaments.
