Well, we actually did fish but what a day for Brian Spear, cameraguy and I. It did everything we wouldn't want to see this day - sleet, ice balls, strong winds, some rain and almost snow like stuff on a very cold, miserable but fun day on Hardy Dam Pond 5/14/2016.

I was third in the boat and not fishing very well so I didn't catch much but a few dinks.

I only took one selfie this day because I didn't catch much and half the time it was doing something nasty like spitting sleet or little ice balls on us. But here is one tiny smallie I caught from what looked like a deeper bed in a cut on the 'Stevie Rig' - a drop-shotted Case Plastics drop shot worm. I had a bigger weight on it to get it drop better right where I wanted it.

We fished flats a little but we couldn't see a darn thing because of the wind and water being churned up. We spent more time in cuts where we found lots and lots of little largemouth bass on beds with only a few tiny smallmouth bass mixed in here and there.

The best thing about the day was hanging out with Brian and cameraguy on our annual trip just telling stories and talking about whatever while trying to keep warm and dry. What a miserable weather day it was.

We never got on them good at all though both Brian and cameraguy caught a few keeper largemouth from beds and just casting out in front of the boat. We never caught any big smallies. We caught a few pike and I think got bit off a time or two (as usual).

We put in a long day though it was a challenge with the conditions and the wind but you go when you can, and make the best of it.

Found out afterwards that all the bass boats we saw running around were from a club tournament - thought they were fishing pretty serious :) - and the two top weights anyways were 19 pounds plus so despite the conditions some anglers got on the big smallies unlike us. But there's always next year (we hope, don't we?).

I don't have any pictures of the other guy's fish because they weren't super interested in getting pictures and it was wet and sloppy so I didn't have my phone out much. Will do better with that next year too!

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
