I had the pleasure of fishing with MoJo this past weekend.  Mike and I launched shortly after 7 am and headed straight for Muscamoot Bay.  We found that many smallies were still on beds.  Most were males. but we did pick up one nice sized female.  We spent a couple of hours sight fishing beds and hammered em pretty good.

On our way out of the bay, we stopped at the light houses were we found a few fish on the upstream side of the seawall.

Last stop for the day was 10 FOW in the mile roads area (probably around 13 mile).  With wind out of the east producing a pretty decent chop, making it nearly impossible to see beds in deep water.  We were in the vicinity of beds and picked up a few, including one really nice female (between 4 and 5 pounds).

Great day.  Had a blast Mike.

Good for you. Thanks for the report!

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

JC is a gentlemen that everyone needs to fish with once in their life. We were blessed with flat waters first am, gorgeous sunshine in the 80s all day, and the wind didn't start blowing until 11 am. So we had the morning to chat and fish with surface temps about 70 F. We took to areas that had no bass boats nearby, and slowly worked 3 fow. It was easy to see the beds, but tougher to see the fish, they are smaller now this late in the spawn. We were careful to release as soon we caught, and did our best not to exhaust the fish. Many times they an exhausted fish will not resume their guard duties right away. With plenty of fish to poke, after about a dozen we chose to move off the beds and look for pre-stage areas.

Then it got fun real fast ! Got our first spinnerbait smallie of the year in big moot in 4-5 fow on the outside of the reeds. My Razr C09 7.0" just took that smack and set the hook deep, (I didn't do it - the rod did - good med rod with a tuned fast-moderate tip. This one has just the perfect back bone for spinnerbait smallmouth). A few more fresh fish showed us fish are in all stages of the spring. As noon approached, we stopped at a well known marker and immediately got bit. We worked the current with tubes, DS and crankbaits and all produced. They attacked the crankbaits in 6-7 fow, and we were so close to doubles several times !! Shout out to my buddy Bob O and the custom made Crank bait rod I picked up from him at his swap meet. Its a 7'4" medium and it laid the wood to 6 - 8 smallies without breaking a sweat !!  Here is one of them:

As JC mentioned, we left to head home, and stopped by the mile roads. We stayed away from the crowd in 9-11 fow and could make out dark areas, but not sure if they were beds. With waves building, we were able to say hello to several males and a big female. Here she is:

So all in all we took 5-6 hours of fishing and angled about 25-35 fish. And you couldn't ask for a better day or companionship than last Saturday! I'll take good people over good weather any day, and I was lucky enough to have both !

Thanks Dan for bringing year round Catch and Release to Michigan
