I just upgraded my trolling motor from a Minn Kota Power Drive 55 thrust 12 volt to a Fortrex 80 thrust 24 volt & also installed a 3 bank charger to replace my other 2 bank. I just checked my Humminbird 570 DI and it will not stay on. If I hold the power button down, I get an error message that states "Input Voltage High". I had the motor installed at a local boat dealership and evidently they never checked my 570 after reinstalling the transducer to my new trolling motor. The 570 worked fine before I got the new trolling motor installed. I know the problem is obviously that the unit is getting too much voltage is there a fairly easy fix without having to bring it back to the dealer? I was planning on fishing tomorrow & Thursday and would like to be able to play with my new toy. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Well, upon further research it looks like my humminbird can only be connected to a 12 volt power supply which is why it suddenly stopped working as soon as it was attached to my new 24V system. I'm sure it is an easy fix but I might as well just take it back to the dealer to see if they can get it fixed tomorrow. Probably should have checked it myself before I left the dealership but I'm surprised it wasn't checked while my new trolling motor, batteries, & on-board charger were installed.

If your unit isn't already damaged from the higher voltage, then it should be a simple fix.  The positive and negative power wires that power your Hummingbird unit are more than likely wired across two batteries that are wired in series for the new 24volt trolling motor, causing your hummingbird unit to powered with 24volts instead of 12volts.

Find the negative power wire for your Hummingbird unit (typically a black wire) remove from the battery and terminate it to the negative terminal of the same battery that the Positive wire for the Hummingbird unit is terminated to. Both the Positive wire and Negative wire that power your Hummingbird unit must be connected to the same battery.

Hopefully that makes sense.
