Great! We'll never know the real story... ;D

Maybe you could work for a new state law to change it to something everyone is familiar with like Indiana Largemouth Bass?

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

I live in the Niles area just now getting situated. I am looking to start fishing with some fellow bass anglers. I have my own boat but wanted to start making some fishing friends around the area. I have fished stone lake and diamond lake both which resulted in tons of numbers but they were all small. Any advice for a new guy?

YpsiBass

Not sure where Niles is, but I'd suggest joining a bass club.  Alternately, this site does have a fall and spring get together usually and I've met a ton of great people there.  Most guys on here are all too happy to take you out fishing too.  Going out to Muskegon Lake this week with a fellow GLBer and if I can ever get my boat in working order (nothing breaking or getting sheared off...) I'll be doing the same.

jaybass

I just moved from Muskegon to Niles for a job. I am very familiar with Muskegon Lake and around this time of year the bite gets really challenging because the alewives come in to spawn from out of the big lake so the walleye and bass chow on them.

as one of those "hoosiers" at least we can fish any time instead of wishing we were fishing- except this year of course >:(

On diamond I would be drop shotin or dragging a jig 75% of my time and mix up the rest of my time.Do you fish the river at all jaybass.

jaybass

No but I would LOVE to! I am a little shy about driving my boat on the river due to not knowing it! I live right by the dam and there is a launch right above the dam. Do you fish the river at all?

jaybass

What baits do you recommend drop shotting? I have Roboworms but I wonder if they are too small when searching for bigger bass

JVB 73

I know what your sayin jaybass I grew up fishing the river with my dad now that im older and he moved out of the area I still fish either between niles and Buchanan or between Buchanan and berrien .river can be very good you should check it out I just hate the skum line it leaves sometimes .I wash my boat when I get home from the river every time.for the drop shotin I like strikeking dreamsot the senko finesse worms .oh and fish the river some of the best bass fishin around.

Rivers are fun because you can often just start fishing your way along and learn the river at the same time. I take is slow and steady on rivers I've known for years each new season because things float and sometimes end up in new, unexpected places. Current can also change the bottom so after every new heavy rain or flooding conditions it's a new river to learn again (if you like your boat and motor anyway).
