Fished coldwater lake(isabella) last night for the first time and I think I got bit off twice by the same pike back to back casts lol.  One on dropshot and the next cast in the same spot on a beaver. Did catch a  lot of nice smallies tho.

Dan

Well, not exactly that way, but I was fishing Duck Lake in Interlochen when my son was about 12. I was using a spinnerbait and made a long cast and hooked a smallie. It surged and jumped and broke the line, expletive deleted. I was about to retie, but saw my line floating on the water so I trolling motored over to it and pulled it in hand over hand and landed the fish. I have had that happen more than once over the years. So, I tied the spinnerbait back on and made a couple more casts when, bam, I'm hooked up again. However, almost immediately the line breaks again. I begin to sputter and spit, and the fish jumps once and then again. My son makes a cast right at the spot with his spinnerbait and rears back, with a fish on. He starts saying, "Dad I got your fish." I'm thinking no way. He just caught one of the schoolers that may have been with my fish. He reels the fish in and its not even hooked. My son had snagged the little balled up mess of my line. We get the fish aboard and sure enough there is my spinnerbait in the fishes mouth and he's hooked the line! I get my spinnerbait back twice and land a fish that had broken off twice.
Once all that was over, I check the rod over thoroughly and discover a broke ferrule at the end of the rod. It would cast fine, but whenever I set the hook, the line met metal and cut it.  No more testing fate with that rod. It went in the rod locker and out came another smallmouth slayer.
Two fish landed, that had broken off, retrieved my spinnerbait which I lost twice, and have a tale that's almost too much to believe, but we all know fisherman never lie. You do know how to tell if an angler is lying. You watch their lips, if they are moving they're lying. However, this tale is true.
"Not in the clamor of the crowded streets nor in the shouts and plaudits of the throng, but within oneself lies victory or defeat."

Tim and I have fished a few times where one of us would break off a tube or dropshot on a smallie and then a minute or more later we would hook the same fish again and get each other's baits back.  Pretty cool.

Live to fish, Fish to live.

Caught the same fish twice in 3 days on Coldwater once.  It did move 2 docks and gained a little weight.  Over 5 both days though, and the second time was in a tournament.   ;D

My advice is to not give the pike a 2nd chance to bite you off! Learn the first time! ;D

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Do u fish coldwater often? Is there a club that fishes it? How heavy are the sacks?

Eric

I don't think there are very many tournaments there.  Mostly due to where it is and the fact you have to get a loan to pay the entry fees to their park.  Weights aren't anything special there.  About the same as anywhere else typically.  Sometimes better, sometimes worse.  usually lots of fish caught though.

I had a 7 pound pike go after and hit a inline spinner 3 times before I got a hook in him.  :)

I threw back to the same spot my buddy had just gotten bit off one time because we weren't sure if it was a bite off or break off...caught the pike and got his lure back!

Also once we caught the same 5-6 (with distinct markings) about an hour apart, first time on a trap and the second time on a jerkbait. The fish had moved about 30 yards from where it was caught the first time.
