Title: WIND
Post by: dartag on May 02, 2009, 08:44:10 PM
is it me or does it seem there are a lot more windy days this spring.  I was out today and there were 2 foot waves with whitecaps all over my lake.   not sure i have fished a calm day yet this year.  love them calm days on a clear water lake with smallies.

It got a little bumpy on LSC today.....I got a little wet when I was playing with my GPS instead of paying attention to my driving.....

NOAA said 1 footers, but I thought they were more around 2+

I live in Almont and we are still digging out from the wind shears from last saturday....I have never seen as much destruction from the wind minus a tornado or hurricane...

I've been say that since winter...the wind has not stopped.  Can you remember 7 days in a row with light winds?  Dang the weather patterns are changing.

Seems to me there is just as much wind this year at this time as there was last year at this time.

I don't mind it because come June, we'll all be baking out in that sun, and wishing we had some wind and rain.

wind really helped the fishing today... was blowing across a weed flat at 8mph going with it, but kept the fish active all day, so i'm not minding it so much. 8)

I've found I can make the wind stop by wanting it... and make it blow by not wanting it... Over and over today. But yes, I was fishing. And it wasn't Lake St. Clair... or Saginaw Bay. :o

So it's okay. ;D

Sounds like the old "some days I love it and some days I hate it and some days I love to hate it!!!"

I've thought... since the wind so often does the opposite of what I want it to do right at that moment... I should be able to use reverse psychology on it?? So far, no such luck ;D

maybe when they build all the Wind Farms the wind will die.  East wind with white caps as i type this.  at least the water is warming up a bit so the breeze is not so cool.

You know... I could kill two birds with one stone that way. I should push for a LOT more wind farms!!!

Feel like I'm helping the Earth with cleaner power and once enough of them are built... the wind goes away. ...of course ;D

Yeah but DK, the wind can be good for us fisherman at times.  We have all seen where the wind died down to nothing and the bite shut off.  I always like a little breeze......you know like anything less than 10mph.  I remember a club tourney on Erie a couple of years ago where the wind was blowing lightly early and by 1100 hours it was blowing up the lake to 4 and 5 footers.  During this time the bite improved 10 fold and the bigger fish were biting better the harder it blew.  That was a day I wished I had a little bigger boat.  I ended up heading back to the River at about 1130 with the weigh in at 1500.  I tried to upgrade my catch in the river but was only able to cull one fish there.  I ended up with over 20 pounds and 1st place.  Out in the lake I had a limit early and upgraded my whole catch twice as the wind blew harder.  Wish I could have handled staying out on the big lake longer but I am safety minded before anything else.  My partner that day ended up in 2nd place about 2.5lbs shy of my weight or something like that.  I also had big fish of the tournament which was over 6lbs.  I remember being sore for quite a few days after that.  I ain't no spring chicken anymore.......just chicken!!!!    :o

fished 4 days last week.  Had whitecaps every day.  I think it must be Global Winding of something.  there were 3 footers on Cass yesterday.  Even gave Cheetam a shower when we hit a wave.

Just got back from a long and brutal trip up north. NW winds at whipping down 6 miles of Grand Lake with gusts up to 35 made 4 footers on Saturday morning, then it got worse! (but I got off the water then) We had two boats sink (one did twice) and another lost the TM and big motor quit too. I'm ready for as many dead calm days as possible.

I was on the grand river saturday. Those were the largest whitecaps I have seen or atleast been on, on that river. Got into the T-cut and got a few.

Hope the boat that sunk was not a Blue Skeeter.  I am with you about a calm day.  maybe this weekend.

I was on St. Clair yesterday and the winds were gusty but coming off shore as I was on the Mile Roads.  It got worse the further I drifted out.  The bite was pretty good.  Caught about 37 or so.  I like calm seas too, however wind is good for the smallie bite.

No, not that one, but he had a couple issues. A 17' Lowe and a small glass bass boat. Both were near shore and able to be saved from becoming permanent structure since it wasn't too deep.

Well here it is June finally and it is still windy every day. Now they are calling for record lows tomorrow night of 38*! Has it ever snowed in the Lower Penn. in June, that might be next.

might as well snow.  the weatherman must not like us.   read about your adventure on the bay.  gave me flashbacks of an adventure on St-clair and Erie with FLW pros.  glad you boys made it back safe.

Last couple of years have been windy.  Water got stirred up because of the wind on St. Clair on Sunday.  Friday and Saturday the water was gin clear.  Sunday it was starting to get a bit dingy but was clear enough to see.  Needed rattles in the baits so the fish could find them better.
